Low Power Notification Windows 10

How to Fix the Computer Randomly Dying After Creator Update

Ever since I updated to the new Creator Update on my Windows 10 laptop, I’ll be sitting at a cafe, writing as usual, and then all of a sudden my computer just dies. No warning, just in the middle of a sentence, black screen. After doing a little research it turns out that it’s not an issue with the battery, but it is an issue with something the Creator Update decided to just turn off by default for some dumb reason: the low battery notification. Simply put, when the computer would normally tell me “hey you’ve been here way too […]

Qualcomm, Microsoft Announce Windows for the Snapdragon 835

Computex has been nuts this year with announcements. First, a new Android device from the original founder of Android, Intel’s crazy 18-core processor, and now, Qualcomm and Microsoft just announced they’re partnering to bring Windows to the ultra-mobile ARM-based chipsets. Why you ask? Well, there’s a lot of benefits to putting a real PC OS on a Snapdragon chipset: Tiny, light-weight laptops Snapdragon 835 being used initially so will be pretty powerful actually Better battery life over traditional laptops Silent operation/no fans Always-on connectivity a la Gigabit LTE This combined with features already in Windows 10 like Connected Standby mean the

The New Surface Pro, Surface Pen, and Type Cover

The new Surface Pro was announced today by Microsoft in Shanghai today. Expected to be the Surface Pro 5, Microsoft has switched things up (and simplified things, I think) by just calling it the Surface Pro. Period. New Surface Pro Specs The new device is very similar to the Pro 4 in terms of looks and form factor. We have the same detachable design, screen size, resolution, and even weight and size (for the most part). The only real noticeable difference looks-wise is that the corners are a bit rounder on the new Pro and if you have the kickstand

Microsoft AI Powered Cameras

Microsoft’s AI Powered Camera Recognition for Businesses is Straight Out of a Sci-Fi Movie (Video)

During Microsoft’s developer conference Build a bit ago, Microsoft demoed something that I thought was pretty damn cool. The new tech they’re using can analyze images from everyday security cameras to detect people and objects and then automatically direct those people to those objects, notify other people, etc. Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean. Straight outta a sci-fi movie, right?! Not quite sure how close Microsoft is to this being a reality, but Director of Commercial Communications Andrea Carl explained how it’s working and named all systems Microsoft already has running (including Azure Stack, Azure Functions, & Cognitive

Microsoft Fluent Design

Microsoft Has a New Design Coming and It’s Real Pretty

Microsoft held their annual developer conference this week called Build where they showcase their latest coming features to Windows and other products and new ways developers can make apps, etc. But this time they showed something that I think might be of interest to anyone interested in Windows: a new design overhaul. Check out the video below for a glimpse at their new Fluent Design System. Am I the only one that thinks it looks awesome? Microsoft has always been the one pushing the flat design for a while now, but to now see them fully embrace this material/flat look

Microsoft Reveals Their Cortana Powered Echo Competitor

And it looks a bit like the Echo, if we’re honest. The new speaker made by Microsoft and, audio maker, Harmon Kardon, is called the Invoke and it does what you expect. It can use Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant, to control IoT devices, play music, etc but, of course, with syncing with your Microsoft account/PC. The device does have the specs to play better audio than the Google Home or Echo with more speakers and that Harmon Kardon name attached to it. But it can also, use Skype to make and receive calls, which is a neat differentiator (since here

What You Need to Know About Windows 10S (& Why It’s a Good Idea for Microsoft)

Alongside the beautiful new Surface Laptop from yesterday, Microsoft also unveiled a new version of Windows that it will initially run called Windows 10 S (S for Student? S for Streamlined? No idea.). At first glance, this new Windows version seems like a new version of the much hated Windows RT from not too long ago, but it’s at least not that bad. Here’s a quick rundown of how Windows 10 S compares to Windows. It Can’t Run Apps That Aren’t in the Microsoft App Store So this is the thing that everyone is upset about hearing: you can’t use apps (are

Microsoft Surface Laptop: Functionality Meets Beauty

I’ve mentioned this in a video not too long ago, but Windows laptops aren’t the sexiest devices usually. There are some, but walking into an electronics store’s laptop section generally unveils glimmers of metal and premium materials, but mostly it’s a room full of plastic. Windows needs to look and feel premium. It needs to appeal to the new generation of designers, students, & professionals who all want their devices to look and feel like attention was paid to every detail; like they were designed to be functional and beautiful. Microsoft today at their education focused event unveiled a device

HP Wave Review: Good Looking, Great Sounding Home Theater PC

A package from HP arrived and inside is a very interesting looking-computer with a very familiar logo. That logo is Bang and Olufsen and if you aren’t familiar they’re known for their high-end audio equipment which tells you that this compact little desktop probably has a focus on audio. Which it does. Head here to get the least expensive HP Wave I mentioned in the video. This video was sponsored by HP but all opinions are my actual opinions, and I would never do a sponsored video on a product/service if I myself didn’t truly think it was something I’d actually

Acer Announces a New Ultrathin Gaming PC, All-in-One w/ Liquid Cooling, & More

Acer held their annual press conference in NYC this year at an IMAX theater on the Upper West Side. Now, one might wonder why an IMAX theater? Well, once you realize that Acer is one of the strategic partners in IMAX’s new 50 million dollar investment fund for higher quality VR content that happened late last year, you can start to see the conversation: “Hey, why not do your event at our theater this year? We have the world’s largest IMAX screen there. Wouldn’t that be awesome?” So, here we are. Regardless, of the venue, there were a ton of products announced

How to Use an External Graphics Card with Your Laptop (Video)

While doing the review of the Razer Blade 2016 gaming laptop, I came across the Core: an external graphics card housing made by the same company. What is an eGPU? The idea of this housing is that it allows you to plug in your Razer laptop via a Thunderbolt 2 or 3 USB-C cable and utilize any desktop graphics card you can put into the PCI slot inside as if it was inside the laptop itself. The implications of this are pretty incredible. Since games and, in my case, video editing rely heavily on the graphics power of the laptop this means

Best Editing Laptop? Macbook Pro vs Surface Book vs Razer Blade (Video)

When the new Macbook Pro was released, there was a lot of humming and hawing from the creative professional community. Essentially, everyone was a little disappointed in the power the new Macbook Pro was given. One of the more popular theories of Apple aiming for the mainstream instead of the niche of creatives that helped set them apart years before was given more fuel to burn. And, when you think about it, Apple’s most popular products of all time, the iPod and iPhone, were not aimed at professionals, but at the mass market of your average person. So why not

Text From a Computer

How to Text from Your Computer (Complete Guide) (Video)

There’s nothing like a full-blown keyboard for typing. Even though touchscreens have gotten better, more responsive, typing with two thumbs will always be beaten by typing with all ten fingers. Interestingly enough, some app developers agree (so does Apple) and there are ways to use your real keyboard and text from your computer instead of the phone. This ability is one I actually love when I’m working –receiving and sending texts from my computer while my phone is comfortably plugged it on the desk. I figured I wasn’t alone in this enjoyment so if you also want to be able
