How to Automatically Digitize Anything You Write on a Whiteboard (Video)

One of the big problems with whiteboards in an office is that, unlike other digital drawing solutions, it isn’t saveable, it isn’t shareable, it’s not collaborative. In a nutshell, it’s good at showing a room an idea, but other than that, it’s super inefficient. Now, having faith that technology has to be able to help this archaic means of communication, I went in search of something to help. And, you know what, I think I found it. This is the eBeam Smartmarker kit. The concept behind this device is that it can scan anything you write on a whiteboard (or […]

Stage Lighting Mono Photo

How to Use Portrait Lighting on the iPhone (Video)

With iOS 11 and the new iPhone 8 Plus and X, Apple added a new feature to the cameras that I think people will definitely like an probably overuse on Instagram, social in general, etc. Regardless it is a cool feature and it’s called Portrait Lighting. Just like Portrait mode that we’re used to by now that uses the dual cameras on the phone to judge depth and create that bokeh depth of field look using software, this mode uses the dual camera setup and takes the software magic a step further. Instead of just being able to create a

How to Remove an iOS Beta (& Get Back to Stock Firmware)

OK, so a new version of iOS is officially out and so now you’re done with messing around with the beta and just want to get back on the stable OS track. You’d like to think that maybe the beta software would just update to the latest stable version of iOS (and then maybe move to the next beta when that’s available?), but no, it doesn’t work that way. You need to actually remove the beta profile and then force the device to find the stable update and replace the software, for whatever reason. In case you aren’t sure how

No Chat Heads

How to Disable Chat Heads in Facebook Messenger (Because It’s Evil)

Chat heads are one of those things that I can only assume Facebook created to make sure they could sufficiently annoy you when not using the app to go back into it. There is never a time that while I’m using my phone I need a notification and a floating head of my friend messaging me over what I was originally trying to do. AMIRITE? It’s pretty easy to figure out why Facebook added this feature to the messenger app–the longer you spend in the app the more time for you to be shown ads and the more revenue Facebook can

5 Hidden Features in iOS 11 That You’ll Love (Video)

iOS 11 is now official and bringing with it a bunch of new features to your iPhone and iPad. Thing is, besides the big ones, which you can check out my video on those here, there are a few lesser known or hidden features that I think deserve mentioning. Here are my favorite hidden features in iOS 11. Audio Video Compression First up, your videos and images will magically take up less space on the phone. The reason for this is that in iOS 11, Apple has now switch over to HEVC (aka H.265) video and HEIF images. Which stand

In case you’re maybe wondering what all the chatter is about, here’s a quick rundown of the five best features to look forward to in the new iOS 11 update. Control Center One of the biggest aestetic changes we’ve seen in iOS 11 comes in the form of the new design of the control center. The new control center has a bit more of a bubbly look to it and it now takes up the entire screen when you swipe up to

FaceID Fail

Why the FaceID Fail on Stage Wasn’t a FaceID Fail at All

I’m pretty sure everyone watching gringed slightly when Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said the words, “Now, unlocking it is as easy as looking at it and swiping up,” followed by a pause and, “…you know, let’s try that again…” and still nothing. For all the talk right before this live demo of how Face ID would be seamless and work instantly, is amazing, etc., it sure wasn’t in that moment. Federighi gets a tad visibly shaken at this point and goes to a backup device that ends up working just fine. The. Internet. Died. Some going

How to Get the iOS 11 Public Beta On Your Device Right Now (No Dev Account)

With iOS 11 being finally official, the iOS 11 Public Beta (not to be confused with the developer beta that’s been out for a while) is now available. This version doesn’t require any developer accounts and is really for people who want to mess with the new beta before it is finally released as a stable version shortly thereafter. The nice thing about this version is that it’s basically the same as the Golden Master and final release so it’s relatively stable and just a nice way to get into the software before everyone else (nanny nanny boo boo comes

Everything Announced at the Apple Event in an Easy-to-Skim, Bulleted List

A famous internet poet once said, “Ain’t nobody got time for that”. And Apple events are no exception. Most of us just want the specs, the names, the hard facts (and validation of all the leaks that already presented us with all that info), AMIRITE? Well, in an effort to save you guys some time today, I poured some coffee, loaded up Microsoft Edge (one of two browsers allowed to watch the Apple Live Stream for some odd reason, and the only reason I’ve opened it in a very long time), and settled in. Here are all the bullet points for

Any Photo in Snapchat

How to Add Any Photo to Snapchat (without Those Annoying White Borders) (Video)

Snapchat has always been pretty strict about the fact that, since they call themselves a camera company, they want you to use their camera app to capture your photos to be able to share them to the social network aspect of their “camera app”. When they finally allowed you to use past photos they shamed these photos with a white border letting everyone know how ridiculous you are for trying to share something from the past. Then they decided, okay, past photos are fine but only if they come from the memories section of the app which is where the

iPhone 8 Model Hands-On & Feature Predictions

I don’t usually do rumors. But the iPhone 8 or X or whatever it’s going to be called has now just shown up in way too many places to be ignored. So I managed to get my hands on the dummy model of the leaked images etc. to see it for myself. As with any leak, take it with a grain of salt–just maybe slightly less salt considering how widespread this is, but still, served salted. If it is true though, there’s a few predictions we can make about the feature-set of the new phone. These aren’t facts, they’re just

How to Hide Instagram Posts

If you were thinking about Spring cleaning your Instagram and getting your feed looking more cohesive (or maybe there’s some questionable photos you don’t want to delete but maybe shouldn’t have let be public) Instagram just launched a new feature to make that a lot easier to do called Archive. Now, most people probably don’t need to do this type of clean up, but I know a lot of marketers/social media managers that actually like to scrub through their Instagram once in a while to remove posts that might have seemed perfect when they posted, but now don’t quite fit

Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor Tech

Qualcomm Shows Off New Fingerprint Sensor That Works Through Glass, Metal, & Even Underwater

Well, we can all stop wondering if a fingerprint sensor under glass is possible as the rumor for the latest iPhone would suggest. At MWC Shanghai this year, Qualcomm showed off their latest fingerprint sensor technology. The tech uses ultrasonic frequencies to scan through materials and register fingerprints (crazy, right?). Because of this it’ll work through glass, metal, underwater, and can even register heartbeats and swiping gestures. Here’s what Qualcomm had to say in their press release about that technology; Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor for Display is the mobile industry’s first commercially announced multi-functional ultrasonic solution capable of scanning through OLED

Via Car Service Launches Unlimited Rides in NYC, DC, & Chicago

A friend of mine recently turned me on to a newer car service (been out for a while apparently but just expanded their service area here in NYC) called Via. The idea behind Via is that they essentially work like UberPool: you order a car, share it with other riders, and it picks you up and drops you off within a few blocks of your origin/destination to optimize routes. But, the reason I’m writing about it now is that it just launched something I think is a huge differentiator: unlimited rides. The service itself is already pretty cheap. The reason

Sega’s Turn for Nostalgia: Sega Forever Brings Classic Sega Games to Mobile for Free

Turns out Sonic and his pals want in on the nostalgic action that Nintendo’s been getting recently–albeit in a very different way. No new huge console push, just a free app to play your favorite Sega games on your phone: simple. The app is called Sega Forever and will be available tomorrow with the following 5 titles at launch: Sonic the Hedgehog (duh) Comix Zone Altered Beast Kid Chameleon Phantasy Star II With more games launching every two weeks, it’ll slowly become a nice repository soon enough, I imagine. The app is free to download but will contain ads, but you
