Huawei P40 Pro Complete Walkthrough (& What It’s Like Without Google)

Huawei just launched a new P series device and considering how good the P30 series was I was super interested to see what the new P40 series had to offer. The livestream came and went and the spec sheets for the three new devices–the P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro Plus (yes naming is getting more and more confusing in the phone world)–and frankly on paper at least they didn’t disappoint. Now, here in the US and a good portion of the Western world, this launch is tarnished, just as the Mate 30 series was, by the fact that thanks

Huawei Mate XS Complete Walkthrough: Best Specs in a Folding Phone

Oh, all the phones that fold. They’re unique, they’re new, they invoke curiosity from people when they see them for the first time and frankly they bring a sense of excitement back into an arguably stagnating landscape of design in the world of phones. Now, they aren’t perfect by far, they’re expensive, they’re more fragile than our current devices, and they aren’t quite ready yet maybe for the mainstream, but honestly, they’re not made for the mainstream. They’re the ridiculously expensive Louis Vuitton bag compared to a regular bag. The Louis Vuitton bag is maybe more innovative in its manufacturing,

How to Fix a WearOS Watch Not Staying Connected to a Huawei Phone

I was getting pretty frustrated with my new WearOS watch (the Fossil Watch Gen 5 for those curious) would just keep disconnecting from my Huawei P30 Pro. It connects during the setup process but then after a while, the watch will just say it’s disconnected even if the phone shows that it is absolutely connected via Bluetooth. Turns out this little magic trick has to do with Huawei’s EMUI battery super aggressive battery management. Essentially, one of the reasons the Huawei P30 Pro has some of the best battery life of any phone out there is the fact that EMUI

Huawei Mate X Complete Walkthrough: The Better Folding Phone?

I finally got some time, very limited time mind you, but some time with the Huawei Mate X. You know, the other folding phone. The one with the arguably more useful folding form factor. Yeah, that one. Well, I was in China on a press trip to learn more about Huawei and for a brief period, an executive let us borrow the Mate X to film and take pictures of it. If you’ve ever seen an American football game where someone fumbles the ball and everyone around it dives onto it, well that’s sort of how it goes when a

Charge Phone Off

Does Turning Off Your Phone Make It Charge Faster?

So this video is a bit of a myth-busting episode, I suppose. You see, there are little things in the tech world that we all say to each other and assume are true but I feel like should actually be tested and proved right or wrong. One such thing and what I want to test today is the claim I’ve heard over and over that if you turn off your phone while it is charging, it’ll charge faster. So I grabbed an Android and an iOS phone (P30 Pro and XS Max to be specific) and charged them both for

If the new Huawei P30 Pro is anything like the Mate 20 Pro in terms of battery (since the latter was a beast) then this ought to be good. Let’s do a real-world test of the P30 Pro battery and see how it does through a full day. I’ll be out using the navigation, taking photos and videos, sending messages, etc. just like I normally would and we’ll check in every now and then on the battery life and see how it’s doing. Mate 20 Stock

How to Make the Mate 20 Pro Look like Stock Android

You guys asked for it so here’s my updated video on how to make the Mate 20 Pro look like stock Android (and the Mate 20 for that matter). Now, first up, stock Android isn’t really a thing anymore like it used to be. What we are referring to now when we say “stock” is the look and feel from the latest Pixel device. Personally, I love that look (a lot better than EMUI) and so not a big deal, but just wanted to clarify that when I’m saying stock, I’m referring to the look the Pixels now have. So

Matebook X Pro Storage Fix

How to Fix the Storage on the Huawei Matebook X Pro

I have no idea why Huawei does this, but it’s super annoying. For some reason, Huawei partitions their laptops into two separate sections: one for Windows and one for “Data” instead of the normal everything-is-in-one-place approach that we’re all used to. Now, I can only assume the logic behind this decision is that its so your files are kept separate from your operating system files and while there might be benefits to this, it becomes a pain when Windows simply decides to install everything on the much smaller Windows partition instead of the majority of the Matebook X Pro’s storage
