Alcatel 1X Released in the US: $99 Unlocked Android Go Phone

One hundred dollars unlocked is cheap for a phone. Especially in the US. Next week though, the Alcatel 1X is being released on Amazon for that exact price. The phone is going to be running Android Oreo Go edition. If you aren’t familiar, Android Go is the same Android you’re used to but just optimized to run on lower-end phones. On these devices, we have Android Go versions of your most popular Google apps pre-installed. These take up less storage and use less RAM than their non-Go versions. There’s an Android Go Play Store for downloading more optimized apps, and […]

LG V35 vs LG G7: What’s the Difference?

LG has made the new LG V35 official today less than a month from the launch of LG’s other flagship device the LG G7 and the one thing everyone seems to keep asking me is, “What’s the difference?” I had to wonder since at a quick glance they’re specs are very similar on paper. Same processor, same cameras, similar styling, etc. So, quickly, while I’m waiting for the device to do a complete walkthrough on (hopefully later this week), let’s answer the question with a quick article on the differences between the LG V35 and LG G7. LG V35 vs.

The LG V35 Specs in an Easy-to-Read List

LG made the V35 official today, and on paper at least it seems very similar to the G7, minus a few changes (which you can read about here). But for anyone that is just curious about the specs, etc. here’s a quick list of them all in an easy-to-read bulleted list. [table id=13 /] The other big thing to note is that here in the States the LG V35 will be available from AT&T which means carrier subsidies, payment plans, etc. As we know, that’s a big deal for a manufacturer here in the US as it’s the way a

YouTube Take a Break Message Popup

How to Use YouTube’s New Take a Break Feature

Not that I could see anyone I know using it, but YouTube launched a new “take a break” feature that allows you to set limits in the YouTube app for how long you can view before the app nudges you to take a break. The idea comes from Google I/O and their focus for Android to start helping people who might spend too much time looking at their phone. Now, it might sound counter-intuitive for Google, creator of Android who makes revenue off of you using your phone, to give you ways to use it less, but there’s an amount of moral

Huawei P20 Look Like Stock Android - Copy

How to Make the Huawei P20 Look Like Stock Android

There is no doubt, that the Huawei P20 and the Huawei P20 Pro have some of the best hardware out there. EMUI on the other hand, well, isn’t the most sought-after software on a mobile device. It runs well, keeps the phone faster longer and is great with the battery life frankly, but the look? The look seems a bit cartoony for more western tastes at least. While Huawei has definitely toned down EMUI with the latest versions, a lot of you have been asking me for how to make the Huawei P20 look like stock Android instead. Now, by

How to Change the Font on the LG G7

Something unique to how you can customize LG devices compared to a lot of other manufacturers is the ability to change the font. The new LG G7 has just been released and also has this ability built in. You just have to check out the new fonts in LG’s Smartworld app store, install one you like, and set it in the font settings. In addition to this changing the font throughout the system on the device, it will also change the font in any apps that utilize the system font (a setting a developer can set when building an app) so

Everything Important From Google I/O 2018 in an Easy-to-Read Bulleted List

Besides the, admittedly weird, but also super interesting machine learning produced music, and the revelation that beer foam cannot defy physics, there was a bunch of things announced at Google I/O that I think are worth mentioning to people even if they aren’t developers. From new Google Maps features to Android P UI changes, here are the most important things I found from watching the Google I/O 2018 Keynote (so you don’t have to). How to Get the Best Android P Features on Any Android Phone Right Now

The Android P developer preview was released a bit ago and while at the moment it’s only available for Nexus and Pixel devices (you can see how to install the preview for those devices in my video here), some developers have managed to grab some of the more interesting features from Android P and create APKs, or installable app files, from them. These can be easily installed to get these Android P features on any Android phone without the need for rooting the device and they can, of course, be easily uninstalled if you no longer want them. Camera Comparison: P20 Pro vs Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone X vs Galaxy S9 Plus

The Huawei P20 Pro was released recently and with it one of the first three camera smartphones (and the first using Leica as a partner, for sure). In addition to the 3x telephoto, the RGB, and monochrome cameras it’s sporting, it also has a much larger sensor than any other flagship device on sale right now. So, this begs the question, can that help the P20 Pro compete with the other best camera phones you can buy? How to Automate Android with the Automate App (Video)

In a past tips and tricks Tuesday, I showed iOS users how to automate tasks on their iPhones and a bunch of you asked if there was some way to automate Android in a similar fashion. So I looked into it and it turns out, there are a bunch of Android automation apps in the Play Store. One of the most popular is called Tasker, which you might be familiar with, and it’s great, but I found another one I think might be better for people just starting out with Android automation.
