Mystery HTC Android Handset Has a Name and a Carrier

So do you remember the post we did on a certain mysterious HTC Android device that we’ve never seen before? Well after doing some research I’m 90% positive as to what this phone is… Its the HTC Passion! A CDMA version that resembles the HTC Dragon (with slightly less specs as far as we can tell, one being the smaller screen size) that is headed to Verizon. This would explain the similarities that people noticed about the buttons and the white notification bar from the Motorola Sholes (Droid); Verizon is trying to keep things a little similar on all their […]

HTC Hero Kernel Goes Live, and What That Means to the Rest of Us

So HTC announced via a Tweet today that they have posted up the Hero Kernel for download on their site, http://developer.htc.com/. Now while this is really for the Devs out there, here is what it could mean to the rest of us once the Devs start to play 🙂 The kernel is what controls the basic functions of the OS. So with the Hero kernel we get access to a lot more functions that were previously out of reach. Modding of Rosie for instance (the Hero UI), which could lead to faster performance tweaks and also themes. Bluetooth to work

First Multicore Processor For Mobile Devices

ARM has just launched their new multicore processors for mobile devices. These processors will offer much better processing for any small devices, use less than half of the power (which means increased battery life), and still be about the same size as previous ARM processors. Faster processing, better battery life, without sacrificing the size of my phone/MID? Get to work already! Source via GSMArena

Nokia N900 Not Coming Until November… Not Surprised

Ok, this isn’t a huge surprise to me (a let down, but not a surprise). The new Nokia N900, which was originally scheduled to release in October, will now start shipping sometime in November. I kind of guessed at this when I saw the dates for the Nokia N900 Meetups around the world and saw that Chicago’s meetup was on November 2nd. This would have meant that the phone was already available (if it released in Oct as originally expected) by the time Nokia showed it off in Chicago. So why goto the meetup when you could buy the device

Sony Xperia X3, Called X10? Release Date?

Some new rumor is that the highly anticipated Sony Ericsson Xperia X3, aka the Rachael, might actually be called the X10 instead of X3 (maybe to keep Windows Mobile devices as X1 – X9, and Android X10 – X19?). There is also a release date rumored as well. They claim the phone will be announced in November and then hopefully released in February 2010. 1GHz Snapdragon, Large Screen, first custom UI that can compete with the Hero UI, excited yet? Also, if our community buying works out for the N900 coming out in a week or two, then we’ll be

Windows Mobile 7 Mockups

PocketNow released some leaked screen shots of, what appears to be, mockups for the new UI in Windows Mobile 7 (although there is some speculation going around that this is for another version in between, 6.5.1). Here are the pics for you to judge, regardless of any of our opinions though, I think we all agree its an upgrade at least… Source

Spy Shots: What New HTC Android Phone is This? (HTC Dragon?)

Ok so a ninja brought us some very interesting photos. They show us an HTC phone (you can see the HTC logo at the top) with a larger screen and high resolution (you can tell by the size of the Android in the center) running Android on it… Could this be the HTC Dragon we have heard about? The Dragon I believe will be the Android equivalent of the Touch HD2 (same hardware mostly and just Android instead of Windows Mobile). You can also see the trackball at the bottom of the phone which could be easily added by HTC to

Over the Air DTV Coming to Phones?

So ever wish there was one more device you could cram into a cell phone? Well how about your TV? The ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) just approved Mobile DTV broadcast standard. This means that manufacturer’s can start creating Mobile DTV receivers (since there is a standard and they know that their device will be able to pick up the signals being broadcast correctly). Samsung has also announced along side the ATSC’s standard, their new DTV receiver (smart marketing there, Sammy). Devices with these receivers will be able to watch local programming being broadcast for free. Same way your old
