How to Overclock the HTC Butterfly (X920D)

No matter how powerful a smartphone is, there’s still some power kept inside that can only be unlocked by using third-party tools. We’re talking about overclocking. What this overclocking does is it makes your CPU run faster than its default rate resulting in better performance of the device and ultimately making you happy. If HTC Butterfly is the device you want to overclock, the guide below is all you need.

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the HTC Butterfly (X920D) procedure and root your device first.

2. You must have TWRP Recovery installed on your device. Follow our guide on the same to do that.

3. You must have unlocked bootloader of your device. You’ve done it already (while flashing recovery).

II. Make a Backup:

1. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.

2. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.

3. Hit Recovery option in the app and your device should reboot into the TWRP Recovery mode.

4. Once in Recovery, select Backup and checkmark all the boxes available on the next screen.

5. Hit Swipe to Back Up and it should begin creating the backup of your device.

6. Once the backup’s been created, reboot your device.

7. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. KillX Kernel (Download link’s available in the third post)

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the HTC Butterfly (X920D):

1. Download and place the KillX Kernel zip onto your Desktop. Do NOT extract it.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

5. Open the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

6. Hit the Recovery option to reboot your device into the TWRP Recovery mode.

7. Once in Recovery, select Install and choose the KillX Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.

8. It should begin flashing the kernel on your device.

9. Once the Kernel has been flashed, reboot your device.

10. You’re done!

V. Overclocking the HTC Butterfly (X920D):

1. Download and install any of these apps on your device:

SetCPU

AnTuTu CPU Master

2. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.

3. Using options available in the app, increase your clock speed and keep on doing so as long as your device doesn’t crash.

4. Make sure not to choose save on boot option in the app as it may crash your device.

5. Once you find your device to be stable at a certain clock speed, close the app.

6. You’re all done!

Wonderful! You’ve successfully overclocked your HTC Butterfly smartphone and you should now be able to experience much better performance on your device!

VI. Reverting Back to Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

2. Hit the Recovery option and wait till your device boots into the Recovery mode.

3. Once there, select the most recent backup file (you created in one of the above sections) to be restored on your device.

4. Hit Swipe to Restore and it should begin restoring the backup on your device.

5. Once the backup’s been restored, reboot your device.

6. And you’re all set!

Excellent! You’ve successfully flashed back the stock kernel on your device!
