YouTube is Spending Millions on Free Original Content

YouTube just announced at NewFronts (a video ad convention here in NYC) that they are now going to be offering new, premium content on the site with top celebrities and creators for free. Kevin Hart, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Ryan Seacrest have all announced that they will be creating some of these premium shows for YouTube at launch and top creators like Rhett & Link and the Slow Mo Guys are also on board. What makes this different from the normal channels we see on the site already? YouTube is funding it. Bloomberg reported, that funding will […]

AFTV Amazon Touchscreen Echo

Amazon Touchscreen Echo Images Leaked?

So take this with a grain of salt as most leaks and rumors, but Mashable just posted a photo they found in a tweet of what is supposedly the next Amazon Echo with a full touchscreen. Exclusive: This is Amazon’s new Echo with a built-in touchscreen https://t.co/MSKgWni50S pic.twitter.com/YJewy8dSfE — AFTVnews (@AFTVnews) May 5, 2017 And, I have to agree with Mashable: it’s not the best looking device. There have been previous reports, namely from the Wall Street Journal, saying that Amazon is working on a 7″ touchscreen version Echo with better speakers, but in that report they mention it looking

OnePlus 3T

The OnePlus 5 Confirmed to Be Coming This Summer

That’s exciting, no? The successor to the super popular OnePlus 3 and 3T has been confirmed by OnePlus to the Verge. The reasoning behind the jump from 3/3T to 5 instead of 4, is apparently because 4 is considered an unlucky number in China (and it’s just a happy coincidence that this is technically OnePlus’ fifth phone, according to the article). Regardless of the name, OnePlus has made a name for themselves for producing high-end phones at a fraction of the cost of the big name brands I’m a fan, for sure). Unfortunately, the report doesn’t mention any specs for

What You Need to Know About Windows 10S (& Why It’s a Good Idea for Microsoft)

Alongside the beautiful new Surface Laptop from yesterday, Microsoft also unveiled a new version of Windows that it will initially run called Windows 10 S (S for Student? S for Streamlined? No idea.). At first glance, this new Windows version seems like a new version of the much hated Windows RT from not too long ago, but it’s at least not that bad. Here’s a quick rundown of how Windows 10 S compares to Windows. It Can’t Run Apps That Aren’t in the Microsoft App Store So this is the thing that everyone is upset about hearing: you can’t use apps (are

Microsoft Surface Laptop: Functionality Meets Beauty

I’ve mentioned this in a video not too long ago, but Windows laptops aren’t the sexiest devices usually. There are some, but walking into an electronics store’s laptop section generally unveils glimmers of metal and premium materials, but mostly it’s a room full of plastic. Windows needs to look and feel premium. It needs to appeal to the new generation of designers, students, & professionals who all want their devices to look and feel like attention was paid to every detail; like they were designed to be functional and beautiful. Microsoft today at their education focused event unveiled a device

Acer held their annual press conference in NYC this year at an IMAX theater on the Upper West Side. Now, one might wonder why an IMAX theater? Well, once you realize that Acer is one of the strategic partners in IMAX’s new 50 million dollar investment fund for higher quality VR content that happened late last year, you can start to see the conversation: “Hey, why not do your event at our theater this year? We have the world’s largest IMAX screen there. Wouldn’t that be awesome?” So, here we are. Regardless, of the venue, there were a ton of products announced

New “Server-Grade” iMac Models with Xeon Processors Coming This Year?

Ah, Apple doesn’t like people saying that they are “forgetting about the creative professionals that helped the company in its early days”. While they aren’t refreshing the Mac Pro, they seem to be working on the iMac series. According to sources in Apple’s supply chain, there will even be a “server-grade” iMac towards the end of the year. In a rare thing that never happens, Apple actually confirmed that they were refereshing the iMacs earlier this month, but this latest report adds a bit more info to the mix. According to Digitimes (a site that seems pretty spammy in my opinion,

Uber Broke Apple’s Rules and Got Caught

This story has been going around the internet that originated on the New York Times’ site –feel free to read it there in full detail. The article essentially discusses Uber’s CEO, Travis Kalanick, and how his “drive to win in life” has caused a lot of issues for him and his company. The big part of this article that all the subsequent articles focus on is the fact that in 2014 Uber used a method called fingerprinting to leave information on iPhones even after they were erased so they could track them. Those articles usually don’t mention why Uber apparently did this.

Plastc Card Lost

Plastc Disappears After $9 Million in Pre-Orders for Their All-in-One Smart Credit Card

Plastc took $9 million dollars in pre-orders for their card that allows you to store a number of cards in it digitally and then swap between them by tapping the e-ink touchscreen built-in. Brilliant, right? I thought so, and that’s why I ordered one myself from the Kickstarter campaign (along with my father, who loved the idea). The company spent the last two years sending out email updates on how the production process was coming along. Emails like these (Reading them now is almost funny with the level of conviction they had. Almost). After a year of these, I said to my father,

Google’s Working on Dueling AI That Can Teach Each Other Without Humans Needed

SKYNET. FREAKING SKYNET. Sorry, every time I see one of these articles, images of the Terminator run through my head as I’m sure they do a lot of yours. I digress, though. Regardless of whether the push into AI is one day going to kill us all, it is an incredible technology. The basic concept that is getting a lot of attention right now, is machine learning. In a nutshell, this is the process at by which a human can teach a program to do something through example, instead of coding hard if/then statements that the machine then has to

Nokia 3310 Battery Life

Nokia 3310: The “Brick” Is Back

You guys wanted me to find it, so I did. Nokia has relaunched their beloved Nokia 3310 circa 2000 and at that time it was known for battery life and the fact it could essentially be used to thrwat enemies, hammer in nails, basically whatever you wanted cause it would just never die. This, and its square-ish shape at the time earned it the nickname “the brick phone” and that’s about an accurate description. Back here in 2017 however, it seems Nokia has decided to bring it back for an encore. Let’s go through the specs. Unlike the original, we

LG G6

LG Launches the LG G6: Waterproof, Tiny Bezel, Google Assistant & More

Welp, it might come as less of a surprise thanks to all the leaks that we’ve been seeing, but the LG G6 is finally official. And it’s no joke. My Hands-On Video:   First up is the screen. A 5.7″ 2880 x 1440 touchscreen with a unique 18:9 ratio, in other words, it’s a bit taller than it is wide compared to more traditional 16:9 screen. Think of it as that ultrawide monitor people like for their computers. The screen also has a pretty tiny bezel on the sides and no physical buttons (thank god, Android has buttons on screen
