Essential Phone Hands-On: A New Premium Smartphone? (Video)

Welp, it’s here. Andy Rubin, the founder of Android before he sold it to Google, and his team at Essential have finally brought the new Essential phone (technically called the PH-1) to market. And when I say finally, I mean 18 months after the founding of the company, which is sort of impressive. Check out my hands-on video from the Essential Phone event and let me know what you think. Specs (via GSMArena): The device is available now although I’m still waiting for my pre-order to arrive costs $699 for the only storage option of 128GBs. And there you go, […]

Writing on Note 8 with Pen

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Hands-On (Video)

The Galaxy Note 8 was announced today, the latest in the high-end Note lineup of phones from Samsung and Samsung was kind enough to give me a little time with the device before launch so here’s a quick hands-on video of the phone in all its glory. First up, it’s easy to tell this device fits squarely into the same family as the new S8 and S8 Plus. We have the same, now unmistakable Infinity Edge display, slimmed aspect ratio, glass backing, and just overall design language. The screen is a 6.3″ Quad HD+ AMOLED display which makes the screen

iPhone 8 Model Hands-On & Feature Predictions

I don’t usually do rumors. But the iPhone 8 or X or whatever it’s going to be called has now just shown up in way too many places to be ignored. So I managed to get my hands on the dummy model of the leaked images etc. to see it for myself. As with any leak, take it with a grain of salt–just maybe slightly less salt considering how widespread this is, but still, served salted. If it is true though, there’s a few predictions we can make about the feature-set of the new phone. These aren’t facts, they’re just

Acer Predator 21X

How Powerful is the World’s Most Powerful Laptop? (Acer Predator 21X) (Video)

I wish I was there. When someone at Acer went to their engineers and said “Let’s make the world’s most powerful laptop.” You could see them all look at each other and ask, “Wait, what about pricing, portability, practicality?” “None of that matters, just make the most powerful laptop you can.” And then the excitement from the room as they all went off to start sketching things, or whatever engineers do. That has to be what happened with this laptop, it’s a testament to what is technically possible in a gaming laptop. Yes, it is for sale, for $9000 and

Surface Pro Review: Best 2-in-1?

Microsoft’s Surface lineup is really starting to come into its own, in my opinion. No longer making giant changes, they’re focusing more on refining the products, paying more attention to the little details. And, I for one, am excited about that fact. The new Surface Pro is no exception to this new ideology, so much so, that you’d be pretty hard-pressed to tell the difference between it and the Surface Pro 4 that it’s succeeding. On the outside, they look identical. Basically. But, don’t be fooled, the latest Surface Pro (no longer numbered by the way, no 5, just Surface

OnePlus 5 on Table Alone

OnePlus 5 Review: The Fastest Android Phone You Can Buy?

Now, most of you (67% of 4,600 of you to be exact) actually told me to skip doing the OnePlus 5 review since there’s just been so many already (and I only just got mine). And what’s the point of me doing these polls if I don’t listen to you guys, right? So I skipped the OnePlus Review video and looking at the comments you guys left on the poll seems you wanted me to do comparisons instead so, I did one (and compared EVERYTHING you mentioned in one video). Check that out if you’re interested. As for those that

Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor Tech

Qualcomm Shows Off New Fingerprint Sensor That Works Through Glass, Metal, & Even Underwater

Well, we can all stop wondering if a fingerprint sensor under glass is possible as the rumor for the latest iPhone would suggest. At MWC Shanghai this year, Qualcomm showed off their latest fingerprint sensor technology. The tech uses ultrasonic frequencies to scan through materials and register fingerprints (crazy, right?). Because of this it’ll work through glass, metal, underwater, and can even register heartbeats and swiping gestures. Here’s what Qualcomm had to say in their press release about that technology; Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor for Display is the mobile industry’s first commercially announced multi-functional ultrasonic solution capable of scanning through OLED

Huawei Matebook X Review: A Macbook for Windows?

Huawei, a Chinese company that has become more popular here in the States thanks to their flagship spec’ed, yet moderately priced cell phones (they even made the last Nexus device for Google: the 6P), has made it clear that they don’t want to just make phones. Last year they launched their first ever laptop the Huawei Matebook and this year they’ve expanded the Matebook line to the D (their lower-end offering), the E (the successor to the original Matebook 2-in-1) and X (their top of the line model). Which happens to be the one I have here. So, let’s check

HP Laptop on Table

The Best Laptop for Under $200 (& It’s Easily Upgradeable)

Windows laptops have gotten pretty inexpensive over the years. And more importantly, they’re cheap but decent. No longer do you need to choose between a cheap crappy Windows computer or a high-end gaming machine. One such laptop is being hailed around the web as the best laptop for under $200 and it’s called the HP 14-an013nr… yeah, not the best name, but, regardless, here’s why if you only have $200 to spend on a new laptop, why you should probably get this one. The HP 14-an013nr (sigh) is the top contender for a number of reasons: Allied Content: This Video was Sponsored

You might have seen my video on all the changes of the new Surface Pro compared to the Surface Pro 4 that I posted recently while at a Microsoft Surface demo event, or even the post I did as Microsoft announced the new device in China last month but since Microsoft was kind enough to give me a Surface Pro to film I figured I’d do what always is the right thing to do when you get a new piece of tech: an unboxing. VI Headset: First Ever Bluetooth Headset with AI Run Coaching (Video)

I’m not a runner. I wish I was, though. I live in a part of NYC that has a beautiful park along the river that is pretty much the perfect spot for running, but I’m just not good at running. Like at all. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone for a run and the treadmill is basically my idea of torture. So when LifeBeam reached out and told me they might have a gadget that could help, with a deep sigh at the upcoming anguish I was about to endure, I said sure. Sign

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017): What’s Changed?! (Video)

Microsoft invited me by to demo some of the new Surface computers that were announced recently. And while I’ve already done a video on the new Surface Laptop which I sort of love the design of (and you can check out that video here), I haven’t had a chance to check out the new Surface Pro that was announced in China recently. So, I walked up to it and… it looks the same. So what changed besides dropping the number at the end from 5 to just Surface Pro? I asked one of the reps there that exact question and,

Microsoft AI Powered Cameras

Microsoft’s AI Powered Camera Recognition for Businesses is Straight Out of a Sci-Fi Movie (Video)

During Microsoft’s developer conference Build a bit ago, Microsoft demoed something that I thought was pretty damn cool. The new tech they’re using can analyze images from everyday security cameras to detect people and objects and then automatically direct those people to those objects, notify other people, etc. Watch the video and you’ll see what I mean. Straight outta a sci-fi movie, right?! Not quite sure how close Microsoft is to this being a reality, but Director of Commercial Communications Andrea Carl explained how it’s working and named all systems Microsoft already has running (including Azure Stack, Azure Functions, & Cognitive

LG Tone Studio Standing Up

LG Tone Studio: Awesome Surround Sound without All the Speakers

When I was in Barcelona this year at the LG booth, a rep for LG told me he had something he wanted me to see. We walked into a glass room with a racing game playing on a wall-mounted TV and a horseshoe-shaped gadget resting carefully underneath. He told me to put the device around my neck and handed me a controller. I un-paused the game and began to try to drive around in the game. He was right, he needed to show me this. At one point, I looked up at the corner of the room expecting to see a speaker
