FCC Clears Xperia X10 in Both T-Mobile US 3G and AT&T US 3G

Apparently, over the weekend Sony got FCC approval for not only an AT&T 3G Xperia X10, but also a T-Mobile 3G Xperia X10. So this means those of us in the States can choose between T-Mobile or AT&T when we buy the phone without a contract from Sony directly. This is a first for us here in the US! This would be the first time any phone manufacturer made an AT&T AND a T-Mobile version of an unlocked device. Still not sure why they don’t just put both into one phone though (save themselves from having to make two separate […]

How To: Load Android 2.1 onto the Motorola Droid Using Nandroid

UPDATE: THIS PROCEDURE NEEDS TO BE UPDATED. WILL GET TO IT BY THE END OF THIS WEEK! So you gained root access and are happily using Root required apps from the Market? Ready to take the next step and reap the benefits? Well the next step would be to dabble in custom ROMs. Currently there aren’t very many for the Droid but there will be more and more, we promise 🙂 Now this is not the normal way of loading a ROM through the recovery image. Instead we are loading the ROM through Nandroid backup in the recovery image (we

Google Phone Imminent?

Apparently via Twitter, a bunch of Google employees have announced that they have all gotten the Google phone at a staff meeting recently and have been letting us all know their opinions on the phone. So while all the employees are calling it the Google Phone, we’re not sure if this is the Google branded phone we heard about or if this is just an HTC Bravo (or even if those two phones might be one in the same). But regardless of what phone this is, we’re positive of one thing. It’s coming soon 🙂 Source via EngadgetMobile

Going Hands On With the New HSPA+ 21Mbps T-Mobile Network

T-Mobile is sure playing a good game of catch up when it comes to 3G. They may have been the last major carrier to launch their 3G network but they are planning to blow by the others pretty soon. To put things into perspective, AT&T just launched their new 7.2Mbps 3G in 6 cities with plans to finish the 7.2Mbps upgrade to 21 different markets by the end of 2010. Sprint is working on their 20Mbps 4G Wimax network, and has launched it in a few cities and is planning to have Wimax launched in more markets by the end

How To: Root The Motorola Droid (Obsolete)

!!!!!UPDATE: PLEASE HEAD TO THE NEW HOW TO ROOT THE DROID PROCEDURE!!!!! Someone over at AllAndroid has created a .zip file exploit which can allow you to use SU (root access) through ADB on the Droid. Now this is NOT going to load any custom ROMs just yet, BUT it is the first step (and the hardest one mind you) so if you are a developer, enjoy! For the rest of us, I’d wait until there is something to do with the new rooting ability (or until we have a custom recovery image etc.) and just know for now that

Xperia X10 Has T-Mobile USA 3G Built In?

Android guys managed to get a spec sheet for the Sony X10 and while we pretty much know what specs it is going to have, there was a very interesting portion that was previously unseen. Take a look under Networks > Variant 1… See it? Next to UMTS HSPA? That’s right 1700mhz. That frequency is the 3G frequency used ONLY by T-Mobile USA. So that would mean the Variant 1 of the X10 would get T-Mobile 3G here in the US 🙂 Now, there are a few scenarios as to why that is there: 1. The phone is heading to T-Mobile

Bravo/Passion/Dragon Coming to US in January

Ok, so there is a bit more news on the HTC Bravo/Passion/Dragon release dates, including the US 🙂 The rumor is that it will be called the Passion (instead of Bravo) when it hits the US shores in January of 2010. The only unconfirmed piece of info is where it is actually heading. If we were right in our speculation all along then it would be Verizon that is getting the device in January, but at this point it could be going to any of them (or multiple carriers?). The other part of release date news is that the device

Huge Leak of HTC’s 2010 Line Up!

So the motherload of leaks has been opened. The poster on XDA has decided to share with the world 8 new HTC devices that are to come out within quarters 1 and 2 of 2010. From what I understand, someone got their hands on a brochure from an event where HTC presents their new devices to a manufacturer for them to look at and hopefully bid on picking up different devices (hence why in some images you will see TMobiles name, it does NOT mean that T-Mobile is getting the devices necessarily, just that this was T-Mobile’s brochure to take

Motorola Sholes (Droid) Tablet Caught on Camera

Over at Mobile Android China, they seem to have gotten their hands on the rumored Motorola Sholes Tablet. The Sholes Tablet is looking like a UMTS/GSM device the has similar specs to the Sholes (Droid) but no physical keyboard. But they didn’t just remove the keyboard, they added somethings too: 8MP camera instead of 5MP HDMI Output Xenon Flash instead of Dual LED Wonder if the rumors of the Sholes and Sholes tablet hitting T-Mobile USA are true as well… Source via BGR

Acer Liquid Officially Released!

If you haven’t heard about this phone yet, it is the first Android device from Acer. And while Acer isn’t the most prominent phone maker (to say the least) the hardware specs on this phone do deserve some attention. Snapdragon CPU underclocked to 768mhz (but we can put it to 1GHz with an overclocking program now can’t we :)) 480×800 Pixel 3.5″ Capacitive Screen 5.0MP Camera with a Flash HSDPA 7.2 and HSUPA 2.0 1900 and 2100mhz 3G frequencies (if you have AT&T or Rogers, you should be excited by the 1900mhz cause that means 3G for you!) So if

The Google Phone

Ok, so we now have confirmation via some reliable sources that Google is indeed going to be manufacturing and selling their own branded handset. This is not Android on an HTC, LG, or whoever device, it will be Android running on a Google branded device (which might be made by one of the mentioned manufacturers but will have no manufacturer’s logos and be licensed to Google as made by Google). So before we begin, just want to refer you to a post we did back in July about How Google Could Revolutionize the Wireless Industry. Go take a look and

Android 2.1 Spotted on an HTC Hero?

So according to a source over at BGR, someone over at a French blog has screen shots of 2.1 (no not 2.0, 2.1) running on their HTC Hero. This can’t help but raise the question as to when HTC will even release their 2.0 version for the HTC Heroes of the world (or if they will skip it and goto this mysterious 2.1). Another thing to note is how quickly Google seems to be churning out these updated OS versions. Makes you think they are betting on Android a whole lot. Does the new Google Phone have something to do
