Microsoft Reveals Their Cortana Powered Echo Competitor

And it looks a bit like the Echo, if we’re honest. The new speaker made by Microsoft and, audio maker, Harmon Kardon, is called the Invoke and it does what you expect. It can use Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual assistant, to control IoT devices, play music, etc but, of course, with syncing with your Microsoft account/PC. The device does have the specs to play better audio than the Google Home or Echo with more speakers and that Harmon Kardon name attached to it. But it can also, use Skype to make and receive calls, which is a neat differentiator (since here […]

How to Make the Apple Logo on Your iPhone Light Up Like a Macbook (iPhone 7 & 7 Plus) (Video)

Well, thanks to the response from you guys for the iPhone 6/6 Plus light kit and the iPhone 6S/6S Plus kits I put together, here’s how to make the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Apple logo light up like it does on a Macbook. Now, there was a bit of a delay getting the iPhone 7 kit to work and the main reason is the fact that Apple changed the way the screen connects to the motherboard. In the previous versions of this kit, we ended up leeching power from the back of the screen and that essentially allowed the

YouTube is Spending Millions on Free Original Content

YouTube just announced at NewFronts (a video ad convention here in NYC) that they are now going to be offering new, premium content on the site with top celebrities and creators for free. Kevin Hart, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Ryan Seacrest have all announced that they will be creating some of these premium shows for YouTube at launch and top creators like Rhett & Link and the Slow Mo Guys are also on board. What makes this different from the normal channels we see on the site already? YouTube is funding it. Bloomberg reported, that funding will

AFTV Amazon Touchscreen Echo

Amazon Touchscreen Echo Images Leaked?

So take this with a grain of salt as most leaks and rumors, but Mashable just posted a photo they found in a tweet of what is supposedly the next Amazon Echo with a full touchscreen. Exclusive: This is Amazon’s new Echo with a built-in touchscreen https://t.co/MSKgWni50S pic.twitter.com/YJewy8dSfE — AFTVnews (@AFTVnews) May 5, 2017 And, I have to agree with Mashable: it’s not the best looking device. There have been previous reports, namely from the Wall Street Journal, saying that Amazon is working on a 7″ touchscreen version Echo with better speakers, but in that report they mention it looking

OnePlus 3T

The OnePlus 5 Confirmed to Be Coming This Summer

That’s exciting, no? The successor to the super popular OnePlus 3 and 3T has been confirmed by OnePlus to the Verge. The reasoning behind the jump from 3/3T to 5 instead of 4, is apparently because 4 is considered an unlucky number in China (and it’s just a happy coincidence that this is technically OnePlus’ fifth phone, according to the article). Regardless of the name, OnePlus has made a name for themselves for producing high-end phones at a fraction of the cost of the big name brands I’m a fan, for sure). Unfortunately, the report doesn’t mention any specs for

Blink S Electric Skateboard Review: A Balance Between Power and Portability

Acton–after seeing my video on the Blink Lite (their super portable and inexpensive electric skateboard that’s worth a look)–reached out and asked if I wanted to try out their brand new electric skateboard the Blink S, to which I replied, “DUH”. Head here to get the Blink S with a special discount for TheUnlockr readers! Two boxes showed up not too long after and I proceeded to tear them open in a frenzy of excitement open them delicately. In the smaller, more confusing box, I found a helmet (which I won’t use honestly, but was nice to know they’re thinking of

What You Need to Know About Windows 10S (& Why It’s a Good Idea for Microsoft)

Alongside the beautiful new Surface Laptop from yesterday, Microsoft also unveiled a new version of Windows that it will initially run called Windows 10 S (S for Student? S for Streamlined? No idea.). At first glance, this new Windows version seems like a new version of the much hated Windows RT from not too long ago, but it’s at least not that bad. Here’s a quick rundown of how Windows 10 S compares to Windows. It Can’t Run Apps That Aren’t in the Microsoft App Store So this is the thing that everyone is upset about hearing: you can’t use apps (are

Microsoft Surface Laptop: Functionality Meets Beauty

I’ve mentioned this in a video not too long ago, but Windows laptops aren’t the sexiest devices usually. There are some, but walking into an electronics store’s laptop section generally unveils glimmers of metal and premium materials, but mostly it’s a room full of plastic. Windows needs to look and feel premium. It needs to appeal to the new generation of designers, students, & professionals who all want their devices to look and feel like attention was paid to every detail; like they were designed to be functional and beautiful. Microsoft today at their education focused event unveiled a device

Giphy on S8

How to Share Gifs to Instagram

The internet is obsessed with gifs. Cat gifs, gifs from TV shows, movies, celebrities making odd faces and more that people now use to post as small animations on the web to further get across the more specific emotion they are feeling (nothing says good job like that Drake gif of him clapping. That’s just correct). And while everyone shares these on a variety of social networks, there’s one that won’t accept them: Instagram. Instead if you try to upload a gif to Instagram, you simply get the first frame/image of the gif and, let’s be real Drake just sitting

HP Wave Review: Good Looking, Great Sounding Home Theater PC

A package from HP arrived and inside is a very interesting looking-computer with a very familiar logo. That logo is Bang and Olufsen and if you aren’t familiar they’re known for their high-end audio equipment which tells you that this compact little desktop probably has a focus on audio. Which it does. Head here to get the least expensive HP Wave I mentioned in the video. This video was sponsored by HP but all opinions are my actual opinions, and I would never do a sponsored video on a product/service if I myself didn’t truly think it was something I’d actually

Acer Announces a New Ultrathin Gaming PC, All-in-One w/ Liquid Cooling, & More

Acer held their annual press conference in NYC this year at an IMAX theater on the Upper West Side. Now, one might wonder why an IMAX theater? Well, once you realize that Acer is one of the strategic partners in IMAX’s new 50 million dollar investment fund for higher quality VR content that happened late last year, you can start to see the conversation: “Hey, why not do your event at our theater this year? We have the world’s largest IMAX screen there. Wouldn’t that be awesome?” So, here we are. Regardless, of the venue, there were a ton of products announced

Razer Blade Stealth Review: A Sleek, Sexy, Black Metal Ultrabook

You know what there needs to be more of? Premium looking & feeling Windows laptops. Seriously, have you been to a BestBuy or other electronics store and wandered into the Windows laptop section? The slight glimmer of metal here but mostly, cheap-looking plastic devices that are either clunky or overpriced. Now that’s not to say there isn’t some that have good internal hardware at least, but if you want something with decent power and yet also looks like it wasn’t styled by a 4 year old with a crayon, you’re pretty limited. (It’s no wonder Macbooks have a such a solid

How to Get an Unlimited WiFi HotSpot for Traveling Overseas (Video)

Traveling is one of my favorite things to do. Meeting interesting people, learning about new cultures/languages, and there’s something about the uncomfortable nature one gets when traveling alone that I thoroughly enjoy. Something I don’t enjoy about the traveling experience is losing my connection to everyone back home or the inability to access pertinent information while traveling because of shoddy wifi access, my phone not working like it does back home, etc. This year, when getting ready for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, I received something that – I didn’t know at the time – would become something that was

Even though there have been so many leaks about these phones leading up to this event, they are finally official and I got to use them for a bit at the Unpacked 2017 Samsung Launch Event. Here’s the low-down on the new phones and everything you need to know. Design The big stand-out feature you’ll immediately notice is the screen. Like the Edge devices before it it has a screen that wraps over the edges of the device and curve into the body giving the appearance of a bezel-less (at least on two sides) display.
