Camera Comparison: S9 Plus vs Pixel 2XL vs iPhone X vs S8 Plus (Video)

Time for yet another Galaxy S9 experiment of sorts. In this video, let’s see how the Galaxy S9 Plus’ camera stacks up against the reigning champs of the iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL, and Note8. For this, I wandered all over NYC and managed to get the same shots on all four devices so we could line them all up and see how well they each did. Without further ado, here’s the camera comparison. Here are the photos for your own comparison below. Let me know in the comments which you preferred and why and follow me on social for […]

Speed Test: Galaxy S9 Plus vs iPhone X vs Pixel 2 XL vs Mate 10 Pro vs OnePlus 5T vs Note8

Ok, let’s do an experiment with the new Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. I wanted to see how it (and the Snapdragon 845 in it) compared to the other flagships currently out. Namely the iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL, Mate 10 Pro, OnePlus 5T, and the Note8. So to test it, I opened the same apps on all the devices running the same accounts on the same gigabit speed WiFi network and lined up the footage to see how long it took each to render and display the app or game. Now, of course, this isn’t the most scientific test, but

Stock Android on S9

How to Make Your Samsung Galaxy S9 Look Like Stock Android

The S9 and S9 Plus were released recently and they are a fine bit of kit. They feel more solid than the S8 and S8 Plus for some reason, the low-light camera is insane, and that screen? Drool. But what if you love the hardware but aren’t the biggest fan of the software or Samsung’s Experience UI (formerly TouchWiz UI). Now, I admit Samsung’s UI is way better than it used to be, but some people out there might want to use stock Android instead–no judgement, I get it. So in this tip and trick Tuesday, here’s how to make

Samsung Experience Landscape Home Screen

How to Rotate Your Home Screen on your Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

So this might seem sort of basic, especially if you are used to using custom third-party launchers on your device, but Samsung finally is letting users rotate their homescreen to landscape mode within the Samsung Experience UI. Right now, this is only working on the Galaxy S9 Plus so who knows if they’ll let it come to other devices or not but feel free to check for the setting to rotate the home screen on your Samsung device and let everyone know in the comments if it works for you and what device. Otherwise, if you have a new Samsung

Close Up on TV

Samsung’s 2018 QLED TVs Complete Walkthrough

During an event in NYC, Samsung launched their new lineup of QLED, top-of-the-line TVs and I have to admit, they look damn sexy, have up to 8K upscaling on certain models, my favorite new feature ambient mode (which we’ll get to) and more. I got to spend a little time with them at the American Stock Exchange while a blizzard was raging outside, so I figured I’d try and do one of my complete walkthroughs. Now, if you aren’t familiar, a complete walkthrough is where I try and go through as many features of the device as I can and

How to Use Super Slow Mo

How to Use Super Slow-Mo (Video)

Two tips and tricks in one week?! Crazy, I know. But with the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus (and the fact that Samsung was kind enough let me use one before its release) there’s just a few videos I want to get out for anyone who might be thinking about getting an S9 or just got one and are curious about some of the newer features. So, for this one, let’s check out how to use super slow-mo, the feature that records 960fps to give you some epic short clips. Firstly, the 960fps super slow-mo,

AR Emoji

How to Use AR Emoji (Video)

For this week’s tips and tricks Tuesday, I figured it was fitting to go through a feature on the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. So in this episode, I’d like to show you one of the more controversial features that the S9 phones bring: AR Emoji. If you aren’t familiar, AR Emoji are essentially Samsung’s version of the iPhone X’s Animoji except that they can also resemble you instead of a 3D version of an emoji. In addition to that, they have an agreement with Disney for Disney characters to appear in the app, as well (and

Best New Features in 2018 Flagships

The Best Features Coming in 2018 Flagship Phones (Video)

The first batch of 2018 flagships are arriving and already there is a definite pattern. A lot of the new devices that are being released are all utilizing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, which I spoke about when it was announced back in Dec and was honestly really excited about. And even though it’s only been a short bit since the chipset was announced, all the usual players are already releasing flagships with it and the new features it enables. This means that there is now a pretty solid expectation of features that flagships in 2018 will have that I think

Asus Zenfone 5 & 5Z Complete Walkthrough (Video)

Asus just released their new flagship devices, the Zenfone 5 and 5Z, and were kind enough to give me a little time with the devices before they were released so I figured I’d try and do one of my complete walkthroughs with them. If you aren’t familiar a complete walkthrough is where I try and go through as many features as possible with a device so you can be as informed as possible on what it can and cannot do and ultimately (hopefully) make a better decision when it comes to buying one or not down the road). So with

iMessage on Android

How to Get iMessage on Android (Video)

One of iOS’s hardest features to say goodbye to; iMessage. I’ve literally been scolded by friends when their messages to me go from blue to green upon my switching back to an Android phone (I swap phones a lot, guys) and always wish there was some way I could use iMessage on my Android phone still (not to placate these friends, but just because iMessage is truly great). Thanks to a young developer though, we might be one step closer to such a dream. There is a big caveat, however. You need to have a Mac and that Mac needs

Sony Xperia XZ2 (Complete Walkthrough) (Video)

Sony just announced their latest flagship phone the Sony Xperia XZ2 and I have to admit, it’s a sexy looking phone. Sony was kind enough to give me a limited time with the device before it was released so I figured I’d try and use that time to put together a complete walkthrough for you guys. If you aren’t familiar with the complete walkthroughs on my site they’re me trying to go through every feature on the device I can so it hopefully answers as many questions for anyone interested in the device as possible. Here we go. First up,

The Best Bluetooth Mechanical Keyboard You Can Buy (Video)

When looking for a Bluetooth keyboard we usually look for something that has a good sized layout and maybe has solid, clicky mechanical keys, right? With just that as criteria there are a lot of keyboards to choose from, really. But what if you add a uniqueness and badass retro look. Well then, you end up with the QwerkyWriter. https://youtu.be/MyTNOkRjnuE The clearly typewriter inspired keyboard isn’t as old fashioned as it looks. It connects via Bluetooth to pretty much any device: Macs, iPads, iPhones, Android devices, Windows computers and tablets, in fact, the only thing it won’t work with is an

Cancel Subscriptions

How to Cancel App Subscriptions on the iPhone

While working with a friend of mine working at a coffee shop (you don’t work next to your other friends that work remotely?), she popped her head up from her laptop and randomly asked, “How do I stop an app from charging me even though I deleted it a long time ago?” (your friends don’t randomly ask you tech questions?) Truth is, this is a more common question than it rightfully should be–Apple doesn’t make it easy or apparent on how to cancel app subscription. So, really quick, as one of my tips and tricks for the week, here’s how

Surface Book 2 on Table-2

Surface Book 2 (COMPLETE WALKTHROUGH) (Video)

I was finally able to get my hands on it, the 15″ top of the line Surface Book 2. I’ve honestly always been a fan of the Surface Book (and frankly Microsoft’s new direction for their hardware) but could never pull the trigger on buying a Book (or any Surface computer really) because they’ve always lacked a powerful enough GPU for me to be able to edit footage on it. But now, with the Surface Book 2 and the NVIDIA GTX 1060 inside the higher end 15″ model, I can finally give it a try. So here is my complete

Continuing with my comparisons of the best phones of 2017, today let’s see which phone has the best camera. We have the iPhone X, the Samsung Galaxy Note8, the Pixel 2 XL, and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. I went out and took the same photo in various conditions with each one and here’s what the photos looked like side by side. Here are the photos for closer inspection than in the video and feel free to let me know what you think in the comments below (be constructive please).
