It has been a long road for the highly anticipated Motorola Droid Bionic. The device has already created quite the reputation filled with various blurry camera shots, leaked videos, and an owners manual released into the wild. On Thursday, Rogers and Ericsson launched Canada’s first 4G LTE network in Ottawa. Although Rogers does not currently offer any 4G smartphone devices at the moment, it is expected to introduce 4G devices from Samsung and HTC later this year. On Friday, the ever popular Facebook updated its Android app which brought it in line with Facebook for iOS devices. Now, any Android device with a camera will be able to capture and upload video. Visually the news feed updates are more crisp and look similar to Facebook for iOS. Facebook pages also load without having to turn the browser. Nokia introduced its first MeeGo smartphone the N9 to the world this week, as enthusiasts praised the device’s features and sleek appearance. Unfortunately for MeeGo fans this will be your first and last chance to take a ride on the MeeGo train with Nokia. Intel has acknowledged they will continue to produce MeeGo even without Nokia. During an interview, Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop confirmed the N9 to be the only MeeGo phone they will produce. Developer Andrew Russell has been diligently at work on a tool that will grab the attention of game developers worldwide.  Russell’s project, coined “ExEn”, is an open source software that allows developers the ability to port XNA games to iOS and Android in the near future. Essentially, this gives developers who built games for Xbox 360, Windows, or Windows Phone 7 (using Microsoft’s XNA framework) the ease to port them to the iPhone and iPad. Nokia officially unveiled their first MeeGo based smartphone today in Singapore. The beautiful design of the MeeGo based device is undoubtedly sleek and sophisticated for a smartphone. Nokia did not announce availability or pricing of the device, but they did highlight the below features: 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics NFC support 16GB or 64GB internal storage Intuitive “one swipe” gesture interface 3.9 inch AMOLED screen Dolby Digital Plus decoding and Dolby Headphone post processing technology The N9 will be available in black, cyan, and magenta with a launch expected later this year. Huawei made an official announcement today, introducing their MediaPad, a 7-inch Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) powered tablet. What distinguishes this device is that it will be the first tablet of its kind to launch with Android 3.2. Huawei expects to launch the MediaTab this fall. ChevronWP7  announced they will be launching an approved Windows Phone unlocking service pending support from Microsoft’s Windows Phone team. Chevron WP7 has been diligently working on a service for developers of all skill levels. As stated on their website, “As you may remember, one of our goals was to make Windows Phone development more accessible. Plans have recently solidified and we can now reveal a solution we’ve been working on.” The service will cost you a small fee via PayPal, and exact charges have yet to be disclosed. Source

In contrast to Verizon’s Gingerbread update information earlier in the week, Motorola has confirmed the update for the Droid 2 Global is not ready to roll out.  Verizon published download instructions for a 103 MB update which would have taken version 2.4.330 to 4.5.600 on Wednesday the 15th. Unfortunently, users are still waiting for the update.
