LG Optimus Pad Android tablet in the works for a Q1 2011 release

LG may be late to the game, but it seems to be making up for the delayed entry with a bigger screen, a hell lot more processing power and a big leap to the Honeycomb version of Android, bypassing Froyo altogether.  When released, the LG Optimus Pad will boast of a humongous 8.9-inch touchcreen display, a blazing fast dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 chip, and an unspecified amount of RAM, all crammed into a thin body and running Android 3.0 Honeycomb.  According to Engadget, a “senior” official from the LG camp felt the need to let loose these details and if […]

Rugged is as rugged does and in Motorola Defy’s case, it does so with aplomb.  The device is water resistant up to 1 meter and takes on dust, scratches and drops, not to mention a constant onslaught of grubby hands.  On the inside, the Defy offers up Android 2.1 operating system, a 5-megapixel shooter, the usual bevy of connectivity options, aGPS, and a sturdy 3.7-inch Gorilla glass touchscreen display, a great mixture of brain and brawn. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 getting Android 2.1 tomorrow, finally

It’s been a long wait for the X10 but is Eclair worth the wait? Some of its users might beg to differ but for now, they will just have to be satisfied with Android 2.1 while the others are a bit ahead of times running Froyo 2.2 and enjoying in-browser Flash 10.1.  All the three versions of the X10 (the X10, X10 Mini, and X10 Mini Pro) will be getting the update and with it, an updated UI and a lot of other key improvements. Apart from finally getting to play around with some popular 2.1 and above only apps,

Google Nexus Two a follow-up to Galaxy S?

Yeah, says Gizmodo whose source supposedly got to play with a live one recently and yes, it might be manufactured by Samsung instead of HTC.  And if you thought the N2 is anything like its predecessor, think again; according to the source, the device is very much like the Galaxy S in many ways down to its color, its curved corners, and also the 4-inch AMOLED display that makes Sammy’s Galaxy series so popular although it could be a bit leaner (the picture below is just a mockup).  Also noticed was a front-facing camera (for the upcoming video chat feature

US Cellular picks up Samsung Galaxy Tab

After conquering the major carriers across the country, the Galaxy Tab is now going regional with US Cellular now announcing that the tablet will be available on its network very soon.  Other than this piece of news and lauding the Tab and its features, the press release fails to mention anything else of importance, like a proper release date or pricing.  If the recent announcements from the other carriers are anything to go by, we would expect a release date somewhere around the first or second week of November with a price tag of approximately $400 (subsidized).  Read on for

HTC Wildfire headed Stateside in the next two months

Although not in the same league as the HTC Desire in terms of processing power or screen size, the Wildfire is still a great phone if all you need is a good Android handset that won’t burn a huge hole in your pocket.  HTC has now revealed that the handset will be coming the USA in the fourth quarter of 2010, which only means a release somewhere within the next two months.  The Wildfire is already available in Europe and Asia and packs a 5mpx camera, a 3.2-inch multitouch display, optical trackpad and runs Android 2.1 operating system (with SenseUI

The latest version of the MeeGo operating system is now available for download and if you have swum the murky waters of flashing your N900 before and are ready to risk it again, go on and get it from the repository here.  There is no info on what kinks have been smoothed out (and what new ones have appeared), but considering it’s only the second version of the OS for the handset, it would be safe to assume that there will be some bugs yet.  As promised a couple of weeks ago, MeeGo 1.1 will now support dual boot between

Google Nexus Two with Gingerbread on its way for Christmas?

From time to time, rumors have been popping up about the fabled Nexus Two, even after Google’s own Eric Schmidt quashed them in July.  But this time around, the rumor seems to originate from City A.M., a business paper based in London which purports that the N2 will not only be released, but will also be available with Carphone Warehouse in the UK, unlike Nexus One’s Google-exclusive marketing strategy. Now we should be taking this with a bit of skepticism, given Mr Schmidt’s assertion, but let’s evaluate what actually points towards a Nexus Two.  Other than the fact that City

Samsung prepping a new Android device for November 8th

The invites are out and the curtains are down, but what we are curious about, as always, is what the curtain is hiding.  Sammy has been on a roll since the launch of its Galaxy Tab on multiple carriers in the US and also across the world, so they better have something superior to the Tab under the wraps.  The promo poster hints at an Android device, either a tablet or a phone, and judging by the familiar Android icons on the poster, it will definitely have phone capabilities. The event is to be held in New York City on
