Word Lens app for on the go translation

Word Lens is much more than your run-of-the-mill translation app and if you have watched the above video, you will know why already.  Developed by QuestVisual’s Otavia Good and John DeWeese over two and a half years, the app works by using OCR and instantly translating any text that the smartphone’s camera is pointed at, overlaying the translated text on the original image.  Pretty cool and definitely useful the next time you head to a Chinese restaurant. Word Lens is currently available only for the iPhone and supports translation from Spanish to English for now, but according to QuestVisual, there […]

Samsung Galaxy S will get Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Of course, if the Nexus S is getting it, why can’t an identically specced device get it too, right?  Samsung cleverly hid behind words when queried recently on the subject but its Indian execs, not quite so.  The news was revealed via Samsung’s Indian Twitter page in reply to a Galaxy S user query, saying “Gingerbeard [sic] will be available for GalaxyS users.”  Considering this is great news for many of our readers, we’ll let the typo slide 🙂 It might be a little while before this actually happens, since the Froyo 2.2 update is still on its way to

Touted to be the iPad killer, the Adam has been in the making for a long time now.  And now that it’s out, looking at its specs, we have to say it does have a fair chance at doing exactly that.  Coming from Notion Ink, the Adam is jammed to the hilt with features and packs a dual-core Cortex A9 processor on the Nvidia Tegra 250 SoC.  The exact version of Android running on the tablet is not known but it would be safe to assume at least Froyo, if not Gingerbread.  Ambient light sensor, GPS, 3-axis accelerometer and full

Intel Atom-based MeeGo tablet and phone espied in Moscow

Both a tablet and a phone sporting Linux-based MeeGo operating system have been spotted at an Intel press event in Moscow and mail.ru‘s Anton Spiridonov has a few pictures to prove it.  The phone, christened the Hi/Lo Vibrant, will be powered by Intel’s Atom processor running at an unspecificed clockspeed and also boasts of a 5-megapixel shooter on its behind.  Not much to go on there, but compared to what we have on the tablet, that is really something.  There’s no info on the company that has been entrusted with the manufacturing nor are there any telltale signs of other
