Honeycomb-running Sony S1 Android tablet on the horizon?

There were already rumors doing the rounds in February about Sony’s foray into the Android tablet market, but this latest update from the company’s own top exec seems to add further truth to the hearsay.  Howard Stringer, Sony’s CEO, has gone on the record to Nikkei that not only is there such a device but it will be released before the summer runs out.  As for its specs, the CEO didn’t reveal much but the rumor mill (thanks to engadget) has provided us a list already and it’s pretty impressive: 9.4-inch multitouch display with 1280×800 resolution Customized version of Honeycomb […]

Devs get Honeycomb working on CDMA Galaxy Tabs

While Samsung and Google have been mum on release of Android 3.0 to the popular 7-inch tablet, developer Spacemoose1 over at XDA seems hard at work to actually get the thing on to the tablet.  The efforts have already paid off to some extent and there is now a working, albeit unstable, release of the Honeycomb for the CDMA version of this device.  The only functional components as of now are its base system and hardware acceleration, but it’s a start nonetheless and there is much to hope for. We’ll keep you in the loop as things improve and you

Three UK has recently announced that it will be pushing out the Android 2.3 update for the HTC Desire very soon, most likely before this month is up or in early May.  The UK carrier has announced the same on Twitter, saying: Yes there is, it’s coming in for testing on Monday, so end of April early May is the plan. That’s all well and good for Three UK users, but what about the other anxiously waiting Desire lovers? Sprint Nexus S 4G to launch on April 24th

What seems to be an advertisement urging phone reps to sign on to a Nexus S 4G training program could give us an inkling as to when the WiMax-enabled Nexus 4G might be launching; that and the little birdie talking to Android Central of course.  While the ad only reveals the training commencement date (April 18th), the tipster has come up with more info on the whole deal and when the Nexus S 4G will be available to consumers, which should happen within a week or two after April 18th, with April 24th a more likely date. Aside from the

Rumor: LG Optimus ‘Big’ for Korea next month?

Aside from the three Optimus line phones and the Quantum showcased at CTIA 2011, it seems like LG might have another biggie ready for a release.  Just called the Optimus “Big” for obvious reasons, this upcoming smartphone is purported to feature a huge 4.3-inch touchscreen using their latest display technology – NOVA.  The same technology has already been employed in LG Optimus Black, which did get lauded for being a lot more brighter pit against sAMOLED, Retina and ClearBlack AMOLED displays, so it shouldn’t be any different on the Optimus Big’s slightly larger screen. With the NOVA 4.3-inch display and

HTC EVO 3D confirmed for France

There were many showstealers at the CTIA this time around, but of them all, what particularly caught our eye was the HTC EVO 3D and guess what, this one may not be too far away from a release.  The French division of the smartphone company has confirmed on Twitter recently that this 3D device will be launched in France soon, although they did forget to specify exactly when.  That’s okay for now, as we at the least know that if the device is being readied for a European launch, then a stateside release may not be too far behind. HTC Incredible to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in Q2 2011

Looks like HTC is going to shower some Gingerbread love on its users of older Android phones.  The HTC Incredible, which will turn one this April incidentally, will supposedly get Google’s latest OS update in the next quarter of this year.  The news came about when a support email from the company was leaked, which gives it a bit of credibility, if not our undoubting belief, taking into account the previous announcement of the same 2.3 update for the Incredible S and the Desire series smartphones in June. Still, don’t get your hopes up yet until the official word is

NoDo update for Windows Phone 7 now en route

Microsoft has started rolling out its first major update to its brand new operating system, Windows Phone 7, from Tuesday, the company announced.  Taking a sly stab at Google’s first ever update, version 1.6, this version is known in MS’s inner circles as NoDo (as in No Donut).  With the update comes the most-missed feature on a WP7 device – copy/paste – among other things.  It also adds support for CDMA devices, improves the search feature on Marketplace while fixing a few bugs in the process.  Also included is support for tombstoning – a feature which allows apps to remain

LG Optimus 3D with T-Mobile 3G FCC’ed

Along with the G-Slate and the G2x, T-Mobile might play home to yet another LG device – the P920, more widely known as the Optimus 3D.  The device has recently graduated from the FCC and as revealed by the documents accompanying the approval, sports support for T-Mobile’s AWS (1700MHz) frequency. As for the question of whether this will really become available on T-Mobile any time soon, we’ll just have to wait and see.  AT&T already has the Optimus 3D (known as the Thrill 4G) on its books for a launch and with T-Mobile getting ready to be gobbled up by

Tegra2-powered LG G2x coming to T-Mobile this spring

T-Mobile USA may be history in a year or two (if the AT&T acquisition goes through as planned), but that hasn’t stopped the carrier from announcing some supercool smartphones/tablets.  Alongside the 3D-enabled tablet from LG, the G-Slate, the carrier is also planning to release a smartphone that has enough power to equal some current-standard desktops – the LG G2x. If you have been keeping up with mobile tech recently, you should already know that the G2x is just a rebranded Optimus 2X that has made its debut in Europe and Korea already.  For the most part, the specs remain the

Motorola Milestone gets Android 2.2 Froyo, finally

First up, the good news.  After an excruciatingly long wait, Motorola has finally started rolling out the Android 2.2 OTA update in Europe and various parts of Asia for the Milestone.  Milestone users can now enjoy in-browser Flash support, WiFi/USB tethering and all the other goodies that Froyo is known for. The aging device has finally got what it was long due, but here comes the bad news.  Users who have updated to the official version have been noticing drastic dips in speed and the now “Flash-ready” device’s in-browser video quality can be described choppy at best.  If the company

Motorola DROID 3 gets pictured

The next big thing in the Motorola armory, the DROID 3, has been seen hanging out at Howard Forums recently, taking its time to pose for a few snaps in the process.  As evident by the above picture, the major overhaul in the QWERTY keyboard area seems the dedicated numeric keys which in turn gives more space to other non-alphanumeric characters including the Euro (€), Pound (£), and Yen (¥) symbols. The keys also seem a bit more freely spaced with a more round, thinner appearance to the package on the whole. Looking at the same picture more closely, one
