Download the ROM that fits your device and drop it on your SD card. 2. Boot into Clockwork Recovery and backup your current settings. 3. Then perform a factory reset/full wipe. 4. Load up the .zip of the ROM […]

After a halting rollout of Android 2.3 for Galaxy S in Europe last month, Samsung has yet again announced the Gingerbread update – this time, not only is the Galaxy S getting some Gingerbread but also the Tab (aren’t we running Honeycomb already on this one?) and the Galaxy Ace.  As usual, the update is available through Kies, according to the press release, and there’s no news on whether this update will be available OTA. The rollout will begin in the Galaxy S in the UK and then gradually envelop rest of the world including the North American Continent, with

Motorola Defy gets official Gingerbread, unofficially

The sturdy device was issued an Android 2.2 update at the end of last month, but if this recent official ROM leak is anything to go by, Motorola might be prepping an official update that will bring the Defy up to Gingerbread.  Other than a few user-reported bugs relating to the camera, everything seems to be working fine as of now and if you are a MotoBLUR lover, you get that too with a revamped design for the Android 2.3.3 OS. European LG Optimus 2X gets an update to fix issues

It may be up there in the big book as the world’s first ever dual-cored smartphone but the LG Optimus 2X (known as the G2X stateside)  is not without its flaws.  The device was prone to frequent reboots and random freezes – so much so that the frustrated customers launched an online petition asking for a fix to these issues.  It seems that LG does have its ear to the ground and surprisingly the company has now released an update to fix just these bugs. As always, the update will find its way to the unlocked Optimus 2X handsets across

Gingerbread ROM for the Verizon Thunderbolt breaks out among others

HTC had promised a Gingerbread update for Verizon’s 4G-boasting Thunderbolt before the end of June, but it seems that Christmas does sometimes come early and we now have an Android 2.3 update, specifically designed for the device out on the loose.  Even though the leaked ROM is a test build, it is fully functional sans carrier customization, and you could stick with this if you don’t like the bloatware that is sometimes added on before the release.  Droid-Life got a chance to test it and the update indeed seems to be 2.3.4, so there might be video chatting snuck in

HP Veer now available on AT&T

If the Infuse 4G has got the “size matters” base covered for AT&T, HP Veer stands at the polar end of the spectrum where “smaller is better” seems to be the idea.  The device comes with a smallish 2.6-inch touchscreen display but has a full physical QWERTY keypad to make up for that shortcoming.  There’s also a 5MP camera and an 800MHz processor with 8GB of onboard memory – other options like aGPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi are included and the show is run by HP webOS 2.1. Look for it on AT&T at $99.99, but if you want a better

AT&T adds Samsung Infuse 4G to its lineup

If you have always wanted a slightly bigger, slightly overclocked (using the same CPU as the original Galaxy S/Captivate, mind) AT&T Captivate, the Infuse 4G presses all the right buttons and a new button too – 21Mbps LTE speeds.  The Froyo-packing device is now on sale from AT&T for $199.99 with a two-year agreement and for what it’s worth, the Galaxy S was a pretty good smartphone and the same goes for the Infuse 4G, even though its the same single-core ARM A8 Cortex processor, which runs at 1.2GHz now. Other features include a ginormous 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass

LG Apex on US Cellular gets the Froyo update

The QWERTY-toting CDMA device launched last November has finally been deemed ready for the Android 2.2 update.  With Froyo will come features that many US Cellular customers have been waiting for – WiFi tethering, faster downloads and other 2.2 goodies – sadly, the device will not be able to play Flash content even after the update. Given its current position as a low/mid-segment Android device, we are assuming that this will be the last update ever for the LG Apex – on US Cellular and elsewhere too.  Apex users yearning for something running Android 2.3 or better might want to
