Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3.4 ROM leaked

The Galaxy S II is gaining popularity overshadowing its predecessor, but that doesn’t mean the Galaxy S (model code: I9000) has lived away its full life.  The yesteryear bestseller from Samsung has been getting the necessary attention it deserves and to that end, walked away with Gingerbread 2.3.3 last month.  It seems that Sammy still has plans for the device, as this latest leak, codenamed “XXJVP,” is an unreleased Android 2.3.4 build for the I9000. Upgrading to this version will get Galaxy S users the ability to video chat via GTalk among other improvements.  Currently, the only devices running the […]

Web-based Android Market now displays device compatibility info

The feature is already available when accessing the Market from an Android device, but this would definitely help those accustomed installing apps from the desktop browser.  The Market now determines whether an app is compatible with any of your devices (assuming you have more than one Android device), before you start installing it from the webstore, saving you a precious few steps that would eventually lead to rejection if you have an incompatible device.  You can find the collapsible list detailing your devices right below the big blue “Install/Buy” button, so be sure to scan it before you install. Angry Birds get real in T-Mobile’s ad campaign

If asked about the one thing that could be called as pervasive across all major platforms right now, we would say Angry Birds, and I am sure many of our readers will agree with this statement.  The irate flightless birds are currently trying to rescue their eggs on the iOS, Android, Symbian^3, and the WebOS operating systems – heck, the game is so popular that it is even available on the Google Chrome browser, and getting ready to invade the consoles very soon. Nokia has already used the game to promote its Ovi Store and it’s time now for T-Mobile

HTC HD2 goes NoDo thanks to devs

For a device that is almost two years old – which is a ripe old age in mobile years – the HTC HD2 still seems to be doing very well, thank you.  The devs have been at it and have churned out an umpteen number of Windows Mobile 6.5 ROMs, a slew of Android builds (up to Gingerbread) that can run flawlessly (most of the times) both from an SD card and directly from NAND memory, and more recently, Windows Phone 7.  The dev team in question here, WaterBear Project, has now taken it a step further and we have

Sony S1 Android tablet with AT&T bands FCCed

At least one of the two Sony debutants in the tablet arena are likely to turn up on AT&T at some point in the very near future, if the recent FCC filing is to be believed.  And it may not be the S2, the other dual-screened tablet, but the S1 with a single 9.4-inch display, which recently paid a visit to the FCC with AT&T network and HSPA+ bands present. If you haven’t heard already, the S1 will be powered by a Nvidia Tegra2 dual core processor and will have all the features that tablets usually come with, including Bluetooth,

Minor update for the HTC Flyer out now

The update will bring the version number of the OS to 2.00.405.3 and is only 25MB in size.  Don’t expect any perceptible changes as it is solely aimed at “improving system performance,” but you can sleep in peace at night as your HTC tablet will be a tad bit better than it was yesterday. As usual, you can look for the notification when it arrives or manually download it over the air by going to Home Screen -> Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information. Source

Samsung sends a Galaxy S II to Cyanogenmod for custom CM7 treatment

We can’t help but praise Sammy for taking this daring step which none of the other manufacters have ever taken.  The company has shipped it’s new, high-flying Galaxy S II to a member of the CyanogenMod Team, AtinM, with the explicit purpose of getting a custom build of CM7 out of them.  We are guessing other companies (yes, that includes you Moto!) will not be as open minded as Samsung, but the least they could do is ship us devices that we pay big bucks for without a locked bootloader, giving us the freedom to do as we will. A little taste of Windows Phone 7 on Android with WP7Lock

There are launchers and apps available that actually emulate the WP7 homescreen and the lock screen in a limited way, but this one here is free and fresh off the grill from XDA member lucas.scott. Instead of the normal swipe to unlock, with WP7 lock, you will have to fling the whole screen upwards to do this, which is a change from the usual unlockers.  The screen notifications are limited currently on the lite version, but you can keep track of the numbers on missed calls, texts and emails, right from the locked screenThe screenshots do show access to Root

T-Mobile G2X overclocked to a blistering fast 1.5GHz on Froyo

In many instances, a single-core 1GHz processor would be more than enough for your average Android device – be it running a heavy-duty game or watching a HD movie.  But for the ones who want to test the limits of their smartphones, we will always have the devs to aid them in that quest.  The same is the case now with the T-Mobile G2X, an already superfast dual-cored LG smartphone, which can now be cranked up to an insanely high (for a phone, obviously) 1.5GHz clockspeed on the stock Tegra2 1GHz CPU via a custom kernel. This kernel is only
