Video: LG Optimus Net P690 also heading to Italy with the Optimus Pro

While the Optimus Pro is aimed mainly at business users, the Optimus Net is looking for buyers with shallow pockets, who want a decent smartphone with an equally decent price tag.  The device, which is being marketed as a successor to the affordable Optimus One, got a video to showcase its features recently.  Sadly, the video is in Italian, but we do get to catch a glimpse of the P690 and from what we could understand, the device features an 800MHz processor, a 3.2-inch touchscreen display capable of 320×480 resolution, and DLNA connectivity among other usual goodies.  The OS of […]

HTC Thunderbolt gets updated, not Gingerbread sadly

The word last month was that the Thunderbolt will get the Gingerbread update by June 30th but it’s been more than week in July now and there’s still no info on when the device will be getting updated.  Furthermore, many Thunderbolt users must have already downloaded the latest update (which brings the version up to 1.70.605 from 1.13.605.7) with hesitant hopes of seeing Gingerbread magically appear, only to be disappointed by seeing Android 2.2.1 yet again. Not much is known about this current 73MB update but many users have reported the Mobile Hotspot and My Verizon apps getting updated –

HTC Evo 3D gets bumped up to 1.8GHz, doesn’t burst into flames

Locked bootloader or not, our devs always find a way to up the ante and get the most of out of their cellphones.  The Evo 3D, which saw a temporary root solution devised recently, has now had its kernel modded to run its dual-core CPU at 1.8GHz.  The result has been checked with Linpack and the benchmark results come out at 90 MFLOPS, which is pretty high in the mobile realm.  The trick seems to be working on some HTC Sensations too, but this is a hit or miss depending on the kernel version that the device has. Head over

Military spec Motorola Titanium for Sprint to launch on July 24th

Motorola already has a somewhat disaster-proof cell phone on T-Mobile but with the launch of the Titanium later this month, it will have one on Sprint too.  Standards features are a bit on the low side – you get an Android 2.1 device that features a rugged QWERTY keyboard and physical Android buttons, a 5MP camera, and a bundled 2GB microSD card.  But with the user base that Sprint/Motorola is looking at, these don’t really matter.  What matters is that the device meets military 810G specifications, which means that it can take quite a few tumbles, dips and a fair

The Xperia Arc has been available in Europe and even in Canada for some time now, but the device has taken its own sweet time to land now in the US of A.  While it may not boast of features like a dual-core CPU or 4G speeds, the Xperia Arc has style working for it more than its features. LG Esteem for MetroPCS this October

It’s not often that MetroPCS gets a stab at the latest tech and most of the times, a specific device will do its usual rounds on broader coverage networks before finally landing in MetroPCS’ lap.  The same holds true for the LG Esteem (MS910), which is a rebranded and a slightly watered down version of the LG Revolution that had its run recently on Verizon. Like the Revolution, the Esteem also features a 4.3-inch touchscreen display and 1GHz Snapdragon processor.  What changes though is the reduction of 1GB RAM to 512MB and the internal memory from a whopping 16GB to

Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9103 goes to the FCC with Tegra2 CPU in tow

Dropping Sammy’s own Exynos chip that sold in millions since its release, the company seems to be trying an entirely different hardware component for yet another variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II, this time opting for the Tegra2 CPU from Nvidia.  The variant, numbered GT-I9103, has turned up at the FCC for approval recently.  While there’s no perceptible difference in performance in both the above components (unless you want to go by Quadrant scores), this decision from Samsung might be related more to cost effectiveness than performance, although we don’t see how dropping your own tech to adopt something
