Agile Lock gets the Sense 3.0 lockscreen on to any Android phone

There are many home/lockscreen replacements out there, most of them trying to mimic what all HTC Android phones come with out of the box, the Sense UI.  The interface recently gained a few more points with its bump up to version 3.0 and needless to say, devs have been trying hard to recreate the same kind of experience for other Android phones.  With Agile Lock, users may not get to experience Sense 3.0 entirely, but they could have a small slice of that heaven by replacing their lockscreens. The app is available in paid and free versions, but the dev, […]

7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A100 set to release early August

The 10-inch elder brother is already out in the loose but Acer’s 7-inch Android tablet, the A100, is still under wraps.  Not for long though, as Engadget reports, the device will be released early August, which could mean anywhere in the first week or two of next month.  The delay seems to have been mainly because of the Honeycomb OS’s incompatibility with smaller 7-inch screens, but now that it’s taken care of by the Android 3.2 update, Acer should have no problems pushing the device out. Priced at $300, the Iconia Tab A100 will feature a dual-core Tegra2 1GHz processor,

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 gets its first taste of Gingerbread

When the Xperia X10 was released last March, the first ever Droid from Sony Ericsson was munching on the Donut and the company was faced with the wrath of many an irate customer demanding more from his smartphone when Froyo 2.2 was officially cancelled.  With this direct hop to Android 2.3, Sony Ericsson has redeemed itself many times over and X10 users need to resort to custom ROMs no more.  The update is on its way to unlocked devices across the world and it seems that carrier-branded versions will have to hold on a bit more until service providers are

Samsung sells over 5 million Galaxy S II smartphones in 85 days

After a record sellout of its flagship phone, the Galaxy S II, Samsung has come back with yet more figures to boast of.  The company has announced that the Galaxy S II has now surpassed the 5-million mark in sales and has done it in a relatively short period of 85 days since its release; take note that this reflects only the units shipped to its various channels and operators but the Korean giant seems confident enough that this will translate into actual sales eventually.  Enjoying 56% market share on its home turf, South Korea, a big chunk of the

FCC tests Samsung Within (Galaxy S II) with Sprint WiMax bands

FCC has always been a good source for info on upcoming handsets and this recent filing confirms the long-awaited debut of the Galaxy S II on American soil.  The filing shows a device with model number SPH-D710 – we have already come to know it as the Within for Sprint – and it has now passed with flying colors, which puts it much closer to the rumored release next month.  Also revealed is the fact that the Within will come with 4G bands, which means support Sprint’s WiMax network, so add that to the already known specs of the Galaxy

Samsung Galaxy S II coming to AT&T after all, QWERTY keypad part of the deal

Well, would Sammy want to miss out on selling a few more million of its already successful smartphone? We guessed not and BGR has the proof to back us up.  The site has received a few pictures of a device that is reportedly a version of the Galaxy S II for AT&T but with a few modifications, as is usually the case with most phones heading to this side of the pond.  And going by the spot-on record that BGR boasts of, we can take the news at its face value and assume that it will be making its debut

Toshiba Thrive now rooted and rocking ClockworkMod Recovery

It’s various problems aside, the Toshiba Thrive is still a good tablet and the deal just got a lot more sweeter.  Not only is the device rooted enabling superuser access, it now has its own version of ClockworkMod Recovery – a sign that custom ROMs are not far off in the future.  This has been made possible thanks to the folks over at ThriveForums and the solution has been tested on two Thrive tablets, with more and more joining the camp as we speak. The procedure to achieving this on your Thrive is available on ThriveForums and seems plain enough,

Nexus S 4G now Android 2.3.5 ready

If you haven’t got it already, you will surely in the next coming weeks, although this might not be as hotly expected as the previous version, Gingerbread 2.3.4.  The present update doesn’t bring much to the table except for a different version number and fix a few issues with network connectivity with one exception – NFC will finally be active on the device and with it, the Google Wallet app to kick off NFC-based transactions. The OTA update is riding the air waves right now but if you don’t have the patience to wait for it or the right

Wirefly drops the price on Verizon Thunderbolt to $59.99

Wirefly is known to offer great deals and after the recent Nexus S and Sensation 4G price cuts, the online retailer has now reduced the price of HTC Thunderbolt from $100 recently to a more tempting $60.  The caveats of a two-year contract and signing up for a data plan will still apply, which starts at $30 per month for a 2GB transfer cap. For $60, buying customers will get a 4G-capable handset running on a 1GHz Qualcomm processor and 768MB of RAM, an 8MP camera capable of 720p videos, and an expansive 4.3-inch touchscreen display.  The device is still

Gingerbread update now live for the HTC Incredible S on Bell Canada

While the unlocked version of the Incredible S saw itself updated a few months ago, carrier-locked versions are slowly getting into the game.  The Canadian Bell version is now privy to the update as well and customers should be getting the update over the air as we speak.  Sadly though, the update version is Android 2.3.3 instead of 2.3.4, so that 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera on the Incredible S will have to stay latent until a future update rolls out. For those not getting the notification, you can head to Settings>About Phone>System Updates to download it manually. Source

Virgin Mobile and Bell Canada now offering Samsung Galaxy S II

With its track record, we are sure that the Galaxy S II 4G will do more than well in Canada, notwithstanding the fact that this will be the most powerful Android smartphone yet to set foot on its soil.  Available now on two popular Canadian networks, interested customers have the choice of opting into plans from either Bell Mobility or Virgin Mobile, or just buy the phone unlocked (which costs a cool $600) if they’d like to continue with their untethered life unhindered. Both the carriers are offering this Gingerbread phone for approx. $170 with a three-year contract and if

HTC Wildfire S with Gingerbread OS coming soon to T-Mobile

The 2011 avatar of the popular budget phone, HTC Wildfire, may be coming stateside after all.  Thanks to a leaked spec sheet received by Tmo News, we can now pretty much confirm that the Wildfire S is headed to T-Mobile and very soon. With Android 2.3 OS out of the box, the device sees some improvements on its predecessor and seems fit enough for a low to mid Android device, featuring a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera, 512MB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and aGPS (presumably). Look for it to appear on T-Mobile shelves very soon and for pricing,

HTC Puccini gets real, coming to AT&T very soon

Seems like there was substance to the rumor that we heard a few months earlier after all, as the 10.1-inch HTC Puccini just knocked on the FCC’s door to be put through their tests.  The specs that we learned before of seem to hold some water too, as most of them have been confirmed now by the FCC. As we told you earlier, the tablet features a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports a resolution of 1280×800 and a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor.  The current filing also indicates the presence of dual speakers and support for AT&T LTE network frequencies, alongside
