Verizon Droid Incredible Gingerbread update delayed yet again

Those with a Droid Incredible are in for yet another long wait for their device to be updated to Gingerbread, as revealed by a Verizon employee on the carrier’s support forums recently.  According to the employee, the update has been delayed indefinitely as there’s yet more product testing to be completed and they “will post more info” once they are sure the update is ready.  The device may not be as lucky as its GSM counterpart, the HTC Desire, may stay on Froyo 2.2 officially for the rest of its mobile life. The good news is that there is a […]

Motorola Droid Bionic gets a $587 price tag

We are still yet to receive a concrete release date for the next Motorola flagship phone, but there is some headway in the pricing department for now, thanks to AndroidCentral.  The source received a shot of a bill from a Verizon store for the Droid Bionic which reveals the price as $587 with no carrier rebate whatsoever.  An apt price if you ask us, seeing that the device trumps most current devices with a dual-core 1GHz processor, a vast 4.3-inch touchscreen display, 4G network support and an 8MP camera.  Expect the subsidized price to be much less, most probably in

Samsung Infuse 4G most likely to get Gingerbread update within this month

The device was released with Android 2.2 onboard but there was a hanging promise of an update to Gingerbread with no time frame specified.  We now have a definite time frame and it’s coming from straight from the horse’s mouth.  The carrier shot back via Twitter that the Infuse 4G will get updated in this month to a user’s question, which is very good news for those who bought the device back in May expecting the update. Also on the lucky list are the HTC Inspire 4G (which got the update recently), the LG Phoenix, the Pantech Crossover and the

Unlocked HTC Sensation slowly getting the Android 2.3.4 update

HTC is now pushing out the Android 2.3.4 update for its flagship phone, the Sensation.  The update is currently on its way over the air to unbranded Sensation in Germany users as of now but it should make its way to the European/Asian markets later on.  Weighing in at 41MB, the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update will bump the version number up to 1.45.401.2 and amongst the usual bug fixes and performance boosts embedded in the update, GTalk users will now have the option to video chat with their contacts using their front-facing camera. As for carrier-locked versions, it might take a

HTC Merge hops on to Cellular South’s lineup

The Merge seems to be taking the scenic route and after its US Cellular debut, the HTC Android phone has made its way to Cellular South.  The device currently sells for $99, which isn’t asking much for a QWERTY phone with a decently large 3.8 inch touchscreen display.  The two-year contract will have to be penned though, and some sort of data plan will need to be subscribed to. What’s intriguing though is its obvious absence on Verizon, the carrier which initially picked up the mid-range Froyo handset.  The Merge listing on Verizon Wireless website is also missing, which begs

Games make their way on to Google+, Angry Birds and Bejeweled find a new home

This had to happen, if Google were to catch up with Facebook anytime soon, but there is a difference, says Google.  The Games, which can be accessed via the “Games” right above the user’s Stream, can be accessed or left alone according to the user’s wishes – in other words, the user will have complete control on what people will see from the games in their Stream.  This is a good feature since your mom won’t notice you offing someone for a bounty in Mafia Wars like on Facebook, and everything will be contained within the Games section, with no

Ice Cream Sandwich screenshots put in an appearance

Google’s next big step in its OS evolution, Ice Cream Sandwich, was pictured running on a Nexus S recently.  The screenshots, as you can see above, reveal quite a few changes to the UI and at the same time similarities to previous versions, which has been attributed to it being a test build that still has a long way to go.  The major changes evident are the notification bar icons, which are colored teal now and the dock, which pushes the application tray to the extreme left.  There’s also a mysterious “app stack” icon on the extreme right, the utility

Walmart offering Samsung Conquer 4G on preorder; price – free

We have seen retailers cutting down the price of a device gradually after its release, but the recently announced Conquer 4G seems to have a soft spot from Walmart even before its release.  The device is now up for preorder and preordering customers will get the phone completely free, if they are ready to sign a two-year contract with Sprint. The deal is an absolute steal, especially so for a 4G-capable device as the Conquer 4G which will also give the buyer a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and a 1GHz CPU to run Gingerbread OS.  The device features a 3.2-megapixel camera,

Huawei Vision puts in a video appearance on its way to the FCC

Huawei is slowly gaining a foothold in the Android realm and the newly revealed Vision seems like a good way to further strengthen that grip.  The mid-range device recently landed at the FCC’s doorstep seeking approval to enter the US and based on this, it might not be wrong to say that it will be finding some American hands to play with very soon. The Vision sports a 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen display, HSPA network support, WiFi, Bluetooth, aGPS and a 5MP shooter – all in all, a mid-range device that could be a hit if it is

MetroPCS announces the Samsung Admire for the budget conscious

MetroPCS is adding yet another mid-range Android to its lineup – the Samsung Admire.  There’s not much admirable about the device when seen in the same light as the current behemoths like the Sensation or the Galaxy S2, but for someone looking the Android way for the first time or the ones who don’t want to spend a small fortune on their mobile device, this would be a perfect match. The Admire features a just-enough 3.5-inch touchscreen display, a 3.2mpx camera and an 800MHz processor to run Android 2.3 without much hassle.  The device is also said to be available

Mid-range HTC Bliss to be released on September 29 for Verizon

With women as its target demographic, HTC is planning to release an Android phone for Verizon on 29th September.  And since it is aimed at a market segment where looks play a major role, the company will be releasing the handset in three different colors, although it is not known yet what hues these are exactly (the above picture is only a concept design to give us an idea of what the device might look like). For features, the Bliss comes off as a ho-hum device, even with the few specs that have been unearthed.  The phone will feature an

YouTube Android app gets updated, enables playlist editing

Apart from the minor bug fixes that an update usually comes with, Google has added in a new feature that we are surprised wasn’t missed already – playlist editing.  This may not mean a huge improvement for many, but those relying on YouTube for their regular video needs with a playlist online will find this feature a lot more appeasing.  The app, which will now stand at version 2.2.14, also continues playing videos even when the device is on standby, which is great if you just want to listen to something on the go instead of watching the video.  Included

Motorola Triumph now CM7 worthy

The Motorola Triumph was released last month on Virgin Mobile and it seems that the developer community has already taken an interest in the prepaid device.  A Phandroid forum member, isaacj87, has successfully ported the ever popular CyanogenMod 7 to the handset and is currently the sole owner of a Triumph running Android 2.3.5 in the world. Of course, not all is well currently, as the ROM needs a lot more work to actually get to a usable stage.  But we trust our developers will get there eventually and we’ll be here to let you know of a stable release

Gingerbread 2.3 update now rolling out for the HTC Inspire 4G

The 4.3-inch display mid-range device on AT&T has been on the rolls for the Android 2.3 update since its release in February, but HTC/AT&T haven’t found the time ripe enough for it to take the big step until now.  Inspire 4G users across the country should now be getting notifications prompting them to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3, unless they are running some custom variant, in which case they’ll have to flash it back to its original Froyo state to grab the update.  If the notification doesn’t pop up even if you are running official Froyo, then you might have to
