Recovery file for the Motorola Droid Bionic out now

Now that the beastly Droid Bionic is let loose (and rooted!), development is slowly gaining steam for the device.  And if you are developer, you will know that things could go wrong and you could end up with a very powerful brick with just a glowing, red Motorola logo as its life sign, but there is a failsafe now that can revert the device to its stock state.  The FXZ recovery file (previously available with the SBF extension) will help any hapless flasher who messed up his shiny new Bionic to get the device back to its original state, but […]

Cyanogenmod 7 now available for the HTC Sensation

The Sense UI is loved by many and the newer Sense 3.0 more so, but there will always be someone who would consider it bloatware and prefer a cleaner no nonSense version running on their beloved Sensation.  Cyanogenmod 7 is just the kind of custom build that caters to this sect of users and thanks to the efforts of persiansown on XDA, the ROM has now been ported to work on the popular HTC Android smartphone.  The build is currently in its alpha stage, but almost all of the components are up and working except for a few bugs that

Gingerbread 2.3.4 update for the HTC Merge on US Cellular now available

US Cellular customers can say goodbye to Froyo on the HTC Merge, as the Android 2.3 update for the handset is now available.  The update will get the HTC version on the device to 3.10.573.1 and will bring all the features that Gingerbread 2.3.4 has to offer.  Sadly though, with no secondary camera onboard, the Merge will not be able to make use of the update’s most prominent feature, GTalk video chat.  On the bright side, users will see the HTC Sense UI updated to 2.1, which will give easier access to recent apps via the notification bar among other

Motorola Defy+ available on preorder in the UK

With stocks expected later this month, UK retailers have started listing the casehardened Defy+ for preorder.  The device has appeared on Clove and Expansys’ websites, two major retailers in the UK, and while Clove has tagged it at £246, the latter is noncommittal about a definitive price.  However, the price listed on Clove could change once the official price is announced, which could also be the reason for Expansys’ hesitant stance. The IP67-certified Motorola Defy+ in all its toughness is rumored to be released later on this month – so it won’t be long before we have a proper price

Two new Android phones sporting Verizon liveries have been spotted recently – the Pantech Breakout and the Samsung Illusion.  The pictures, unearthed by PocketNow, show the duo to be bar phones, both rocking some version of the Gingerbread 2.3 operating system. Of the two, the Breakout seems better specced than the Illusion and is rumored to feature an expansive 4-inch WVGA display, a single-core 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 5MP shooter with what looks like a VGA cam slapped on the front, and hardware buttons instead of the touch-sensitive ones we usually see – Its USP seems to be its

HTC Jetstream now on sale, no change in price from AT&T

AT&T might have a hard time finding buyers if it doesn’t cut the price on the recently announced Jetstream soon.  The tablet is now available for sale on its website and retail stores and still costs $700 as announced.  This will require customers to sign up for a two-year contract and also shell out $35 at a minimum monthly for a data plan, which is asking a lot, even with its stellar spec sheet. Univa E510, an affordable Android smartphone from LG spotted

One of the five LG Android phones leaked recently, the Univa does come off as a refurbished Optimus One, which could be a good thing, since the Optimus One was a bestseller for LG.  The Univa E510 features an 800MHz processor Qualcomm processor, a 5MP camera, and a 3.5-inch touchscreen display – all hallmarks of a good budget smartphone, if not a little too low on features.  The only redeeming factor seems to be Gingerbread 2.3, which was the operating system seen running on the device. The device was recently spotted at a Qualcomm Event in India recently by AndroidOS.in.
