Galaxy S II update announced, brings bigger icons and a FOTA widget

Samsung has recently announced a firmware update for its currently reigning flagship phone, the Galaxy S II.  Though no specific date have been revealed, the update will bring two new features, which seem more related to the TouchWiz UI than the underlying Android OS itself.  After updating, users will see icons 30% bigger than previously – this will definitely eat into the available screen real estate on the 4.3-inch display, but for some users, this might be a welcome addition – it is unclear if this feature can be toggled on/off for those who don’t like though. The other new

Live Photo and Video of the Samsung Nexus Prime/Galaxy Nexus

With the Samsung Unwrapped event just around the corner, we are looking at a spate of Prime/Galaxy Nexus-related rumors and frankly some do seem credible enough.  Take the video above and the picture attached to this post for example.  Both seem to show a Nexus S-esque device with some changes – the different placement of proximity/display brightness sensors and the on-screen controls in lieu of capacitive buttons being the most obvious – and seem real enough to accept that this could indeed be the Nexus Prime. As you can see in the video, Ice-Cream Sandwich looks really delicious – there

Video: Is this the Samsung Nexus Prime?

The iPhone 4S might have left a bad taste in many eagerly waiting fanboys’ mouths by just about bringing things on par with the current Android crop, but we have news on what we feel is the next big step in the evolution for Android – the Nexus Prime.  This device has been getting as much press as the iPhone 4S (if not more, depending on the circles you are in) but we really haven’t seen a live picture or even a promotional mockup in all of that – at least, until now. Sammy is known to tease us with

Android 2.3.7 released, already ported to many devices

While the Nexus S (and its variants) were the first to receive this update, the devs as usual have been hard at work to port this latest (and possibly the last) Gingerbread update to other devices.  And thanks to their efforts, several custom ROMs for several different devices have popped up based on this version of Gingerbread, including the Nexus One, Nexus S 4G and the ever popular Galaxy S2.  Favorite groups like Cyanogenmod and ACS already have their versions out, and if you look to some dev group for your ROM needs, it’s quite possible that they have a

Dell Streak 7 starts getting the Honeycomb 3.2 update

Shipped with Android 2.2, the Dell Streak 7 would have disappointed many with its smartphone-oriented OS when it was released back in March.  It seems that things are changing though, as the tablet-tailored Honeycomb 3.2 update is now on its way to 7-inched Streaks as we speak.  The update is said to have been received by many in the UK with the 3G version of the device, while the rest of the world should soon be getting it too. But all’s not well though, as some users who got it feel that the 800×480 WVGA is too low a resolution

Dell’s next Android smartphone, the Streak Pro 101DL, is scheduled for a release in January 2012 and if you think the device will be stale news by then, think again, as the handset seems equipped to take on the best of high-end smartphones even at such a later date.  The device will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor aided by, we think, 1GB of RAM – this kind of horsepower has only been heard of when talking about the Nexus Prime, or whatever it’s going to be called when and if it is unveiled next month.  For other features,
