We knew this would happen some time soon, but it’s always good to hear it straight from the company itself.  Google’s own Gabe Cohen, talking at the Galaxy Nexus event, revealed that they are “currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S.” Gabe went on to say that the update won’t be limited to the Nexus line or upcoming devices but should “theoretically should work for any 2.3 device” – this by far is the biggest news of all for people hanging on to their older droids and can’t upgrade to the Google Nexus any time

Video: Galaxy Nexus promo out, hints at Verizon availability

While the announcement earlier today revealed that the Galaxy Nexus will be out in the US in November, the specifics on which carriers will be playing host to this shiny new droid were left out.  But this promotional video you see above is a tad more liberal with that info than the entire event. Right at the 21-second mark, when they are showing off the new notifications bar, you can catch a glimpse of the words “Verizon Wireless” clearly at the bottom of the device’s display.  Does this mean that Verizon, with its LTE network, will be the first (or

Japan-based telecom provider, NTT DoCoMo couldn’t wait another few hours until the ICS event to let the world know it will be bringing the Samsung Galaxy Nexus home to their customers.  The carrier went on Twitter prematurely to state that it will be “among the fastest” to get the Galaxy Nexus and its Ice-Cream Sandwich goodness to its masses, while giving out no specific dates other than to say it will be available some time in November. The rumors, live pics and videos have all but shattered the mystery surrounding the next Nexus star, but there’s not a peep officially

T-Mobile makes the LG DoublePlay official

After the leaked picture we saw some days ago, the LG DoublePlay has now officially been added to T-Mobile’s veritable collection of Android smartphones.  The device, as we recently saw, features dual touchscreen displays and a split QWERTY keypad – a design most reminiscent of the old Sidekick which was so popular in the younger crowd at one point.  Here, the target consumer is the same (i.e., the constantly texting teen) – couple that with Android and its offering of many teen-centric apps, and we could see this device selling by the hordes once it is outed. For other specs,

Samsung Captivate gets Gingerbread 2.3.5 via leak

While the Galaxy S II is taking a bow across the world, Samsung hasn’t forgotten about its predecessor and its success entirely, it seems.  The South Korean company is working on an Android 2.3.5 update for the Captivate, an original Galaxy S variant, and must be on the brink of releasing it, but the build has been leaked prematurely.  Numbered UCKJ1, the update will bring the device up to Gingerbread 2.3.5 and all the goodness associated with it. As always, those who have dabbled with Odin before will find the update process pretty straightforward, but others new to the flashing
