Motorola Atrix now getting Android 2.3.4 update in Europe

Delivering on its promise, Moto is now rolling out the Android 2.3.4 update for its Froyo-toting Atrix smartphone. The update became available last week for the Nordic regions and the Vodafone Germany variant of the device, with UK now included in the second wave of the update. Released last February, the Motorola Atrix is a fast horse, featuring dual-core 1GHz CPU, 1GB of working memory, and 16GB of onboard storage to go with its 5MP shooter. This update should definitely sweeten things until the Ice-Cream Sandwich update arrives, which is yet to be confirmed by Motorola. Source

Nexus One not “too old” for ICS – Android 4.0 ROM for the device now available

When Google said the much popular Nexus One was too long in the tooth to run Ice-Cream Sandwich, the news must have come as a disappointment to many users who were looking forward to running the latest and greatest Android build on their N1s.  This has been the case from many manufacturers too where devices have been doomed to stay at a certain OS version with no hope, but every time this has happened the dev community was there, waiting in the sidelines, dishing out ROMs that worked, even if not smoothly.  They have done it again and Nexus One

Gingerbread update for Samsung Fascinate up for field testing – rollout to follow soon?

The Samsung Fascinate seems to be one of the few original Galaxy S variants that have the misfortune currently of still hanging on to Froyo – courtesy of Verizon – while most other versions of the device have had Gingerbread for a while now and are looking forward to the next pastry.  That said, it seems that the carrier hasn’t forgotten the handset completely, as the device is currently being field tested with Gingerbread, which could only mean the update should be out pretty soon – or not, if the testing fails on the current build and the Big Red

With its 7-inch IPS LCD display and dual-core CPU, the Kindle Fire is one of the cheapest tablets out there with features sitting far higher than its price – now that the device has seen root, it should gain much popularity as we should be seeing a flurry of ROMs make

Android 4.0 source code released by Google – custom ICS ROMs in the near future for a host of devices

It’s time to switch over from the SDK-based ROMs and get straight to the good stuff – ROMs based on the actual Ice Cream Sandwich code.  The entire code is available for any enterprising developer via Google’s Android Open Source Project (AOSP) servers to try their hand at developing or customizing a build for any device that they would like to (assuming the device is capable of handling the rigors of Android 4.0) Now that the source code is out, we should start seeing ROMs based on this version of Android very soon.  Sammy holding out ICS for your Galaxy

Apple outs iOS 5.0.1 update, fixes battery and other issues

As the dust surrounding the release of the iPhone 4S and iOS 5 started settling, users began to notice that all was not cool in the land of the Apple and several issues with the shiny new OS were uncovered.  The biggest of these was the extremely annoying battery drain, which was being caused by a bug in the time zone settings enabling location tracking at all times.  Coupled with this was a serious security flaw which could open doors to stealing and destroying personal info, if cleverly hidden in a seemingly innocent app. Apple has now released the 5.0.1

Fido Canada picks up the LG Gossip Pro, goes for $40 on contract

A mid-range phone, the LG Gossip Pro, has what most other Android phones lack – a physical QWERTY keypad – a feature the business segment users vie for.  Canadian carrier, Fido, is now offering this device and its convenience of a physical keypad to its customers, going for a cheap $40 with a 2-year commitment. The QWERTY-toting Samsung device released on Sprint last September has been munching on Froyo for too long – just ask its users and they’ll tell you better than us.  Anyways, Sprint is planning on changing this and if things go as planned, Epic 4G users across the country should be seeing that welcome notification asking them to update their device to Gingerbread 2.3 in a few horus.  If that doesn’t happen, they better check manually just to be sure before continuing on with Android 2.2 with a lot of grumbling. As for the next obvious step, Ice-Cream Sandwich, the Epic

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II overclocked to 1.8GHz, doesn’t explode

People over at XDA never cease to amaze us and after taking the HTC Evo 3D on a speed drive recently, they have managed to get the Tmo version of the Samsung Galaxy II running at an amazing 1.8GHz.  A kernel called Jugs, cooked up by Romanbb at XDA, will enable any rooted T-Mobile version of the SGS2 to get there and still stay from bursting into flames – courtesy of a different type of processor than the one found in the original Galaxy S2.  Also, the kernel should be compatible with most custom ROMs available for the dual-cored device
