Sprint Replenish now Gingerbread ready

This Samsung QWERTY smartphone came out with the now fading Froyo 2.2 operating system when it was released last May, forgot to catch up with the world until now, and yet still manages to stay behind. While the device is finally getting Android 2.3, a huge stepup from 2.2, it is likely to stay with Gingerbread for the rest of its life. Much stronger devices like the Galaxy S from the same company are being shunned their ICS fix, so it’s better for the users of the Replenish to reconcile to this fact or just move up to a higher-end […]

Pantech Element – AT&T’s upcoming waterproof Android tablet

There are so many Android tablets in the market currently that it is a tad difficult to keep them in mind unless they have some unique and distinguishing feature to set them apart from the tens of others. The Pantech Element seems to be just that kind and its USP? Water resistance. But not completely though, as the device can withstand a water splash on its body and survive it with a caveat that all the ports are closed – so you could still end up with a damaged unit unless you are careful. Other than this, the tablet features

Kindle Fire’s Silk browser now ported to work on other Android devices

It seems that Amazon’s Android tablet, the Kindle Fire, has now become the current favorite for devs to play around with – while this may in part be due to its dual-cored CPU, it is mostly due to all the superior hardware that its lowly $199 brings. The device recently got an early taste of Ice-Cream Sandwich and now, XDA devs have now ported the Silk browser that comes stock with the tablet to work on any Android device. And we mean any Android device – be it a tablet or a smartphone – but only if it is rooted.

Samsung Galaxy S lineup and Galaxy Tab won’t be getting ICS; Samsung justifies its actions

All those millions who bought the Galaxy S and the Tab and were hoping for a frozen treat this year will be sadly disappointed to know that Android 4.0 for these two series has been officially canceled. We knew that all devices won’t be equipped to run Ice Cream Sandwich without glitches but to hear that the Galaxy S (all variants) and the Tab don’t have enough horsepower to run the latest firmware is definitely surprising. Sammy decided to explain its actions anyways and this is what it had to say: We used the Ice Cream Sandwich platform in order

Firefox for Android updated, now optimized for tablets

The Android version of Mozilla Firefox has come a long way, but even after this latest update, things feel like they are to cover some more ground yet before it is adopted as widely as its desktop counterpart.  The 9.0 version brings a lot of new features, mostly oriented towards the tablet more than the smartphone, but significant features nonetheless. The app will now feature open tabs on the left hand side of tablet’s display for easy switching between them with just the touch of a thumb – this will automatically change to thumbnails if the tablet is held in

Sony Ericsson reveals more on Ice-Cream Sandwich for the Xperia line

While it did commit to dole out Android 4.0 to every Xperia phone it has released, Sony Ericsson did not actually reveal a timeline as to when that will happen.  The company now has an announcement to narrow things down for us and it seems that end March/early April 2012 will see the update rolling out once the SE devs are done incorporating Sony Ericsson’s own UI layer on top of ICS.  The device list is indeed comprehensive and covers almost all of the Xperia devices.  Take a look: Xperia arc S Xperia neo V Xperia ray Xperia arc Xperia

With Adobe announcing that it will no longer work on adapting Flash to Android devices, we sure were left wondering what the fate of upcoming devices running Android 4.0 will be.  Adobe later announced that it will bring out an update for the new OS, with many collective sighs of relief heard across the globe. The company promised and it’s now delivering, as the update to get Flash up and running on the Galaxy Nexus (which is pretty much the only device running Android 4.0 officially currently).  Users can now search the Market and install Flash Player 11.1 to open

HTC Thunderbolt update to be released to fix minor issues

Apart from adding a new radio, the 2.11.605.9 update fixes a lot of little nags that get in the way using the HTC Thunderbolt daily.  This FOTA rollout will correct issues with contact ringtones and notification volume, and also improves the quality of local streaming when a network connection is not available.  Also tucked in are improvements to the Twitter API and Exchange ActiveSync with the Clock now appearing as a separate app in the App List on the device. Verizon hasn’t stated clearly when this update will stop popping up on Thunderbolts across the country, but you could check

Android Market updated to 3.4.4, now faster than ever

The rollout to update the Android Market has already begun and if it hasn’t happened yet on your device, we’ve got the APK to make things easier.  Improvements include faster loading times which will be more of benefit to slower devices, as the dual-cored droid usually have no trouble loading the Market in no time. Another major change is the substitution of shortcuts to widgets – this means that although the functionality of this remains the same, shortcuts will now be treated as widgets and will reside in the widget section if the device is running Android 4.0 OS. T-Mobile adds WiFi calling to the Galaxy S2 via update

After the HTC Amaze 4G’s update recently, T-Mobile is showering the same kind of love on the Samsung Galaxy S II variant available on its network.  This update, like the one for the Amaze 4G, also adds WiFi calling among other fixes to improve battery life and caller ID.  The number to look out for is T989VUVKL1 to know if you are updated or not – of course, the base OS will stay at Android 2.3.5. Limited Nokia Lumia 800 Dark Knight Rises edition spotted

This one is sure to be a hit if Nokia ever decides to manufacture more instead of the limited 40 that will go into circulation presently.  The Nokia Lumia 800 Dark Knight Rises edition was recently seen at the said movie’s IMAX premiere and all I can say is, I want one!  The device looks gorgeous in its pitch black color and the laser-etched Batman logo on the back even more so. With only 40 of these made, even the most ardent fans of Batman will definitely have a hard time getting their hands on one unless someone from that

Leak: Ice-Cream Sandwich 4.0.1 official ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S2

This has become a habit from Sammy, since just about every major update for just about every one of its flagship devices find their way on to the interwebs before the South Korean manufacturer releases it officially.  The latest in these (un)fortunate lineup is the official ICS ROM for its current flagship phone, the Galaxy S2.  The ROM is available for download now thanks to samfirmware.com and it’s here if you want to skip straight to it. The version for this early build is XXKP1, confirmed to be Android version 4.0.1, as you can see from the video above.  As
