It’s a good day for Sprint branded Samsung Galaxy Tab users as Samsung has released the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS software update for the SPH-p100 device. This upgrades the Galaxy Tab from Android 2.2 (Froyo) to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and includes several software improvements. Users will recieve notification on their screen panels about the Gingerbread OTA (over the air) update. Apple Looks To Halt Sales of 4 Samsung Devices

On Friday, Apple requested the U.S. District Court in San Jose to file a preliminary injunction which would cease the sale of four Samsung devices. Apple has requested the court to cease all U.S. sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, Infuse 4G, DROID Charge and Nexus S 4G. Apple claims these four specific devices utilize their patented technology without proper authorization. Foursquare App Re-Released for Windows Phone 7

Many Windows Phone 7 users were let down with the less than user friendly original Foursquare app. The lackluster release left various Mayors unable to verify their credentials and eventually the app was pulled. Good news for Mayors everywhere as a new version of the app has made its way back, boasting a revamped interface which takes advantage of Microsoft’s panoramic UI. Additional features include a tap-and-hold check-in, live tile, and a map that shows your friend’s check-ins combined with nearby specials. Toshiba Thrive Tablet Makes Its Way To Best Buy July 10

The Toshiba Thrive tablet will make its way to Best Buy on July 10th. The Android 3.1 enabled device is anticipated to hit Best Buy in the 32GB, 16GB or 8GB Wi-Fi version. Google Videos App Makes Brief Appearance in Android Market

Google Videos app finally made a brief appearance in the Android Market late Friday.  Google originally unveiled the movie rental app during its IO conference and released it to the Motorola Xoom. The app was set to receive support past tablets as suggested but just popped up now in the marketplace.  The Videos app basically allows the user to have access to movie rentals including recent movies, which is the one of the first Apps to do so in the Android Market. LG Optimus Black Coming to Most US CDMA Carriers

Thanks to the FCC listings, we now know that the LG Optimus Black will be hitting most CDMA U.S. carriers. A core LS855 model is headed to Sprint, while AS855, US855, and VM855 should reach Alltel, Virgin, and US Cellular. The primary expected updates will be 3G and the switch over to CDMA  for the device. The device is currently marketed as LG’s mid-tier smartphone. Galaxy S II: Fastest Selling Samsung Phone With 3 Million Sold in 55 Days

Samsung set the bar high when it sold approximately 3 million Galaxy S devices within 85 days of its initial release, only to report having sold 10 million after a few short months. Now, the wildly popular Galaxy S II has reportedly sold 3 million devices worldwide in just 55 days, which calculates out to be one phone  sold every 1.5 seconds. Droid 3 Leaked Manual, Release Dates July 7th and 14th Confirmed

The Motorola Droid 3 leaks keep on coming. Droid-Life snagged an internal flyer which confirms the device’s release date of July 14th for retail stores. Direct fulfillment orders (an upgrade in-store and receive the device via mail) will be available one week earlier on July 7th. Also leaked, for those looking to do some holiday reading this weekend, is a PDF copy of the Droid 3 manual. Samsung vs. Apple: The Legal Battle Continues

Samsung fired back at Apple’s patent infringement lawsuit in April, with 10 counter-suit claims of their own. Apple claims the Samsung Galaxy products copied the iPhone and iPad. Bloomberg reports that Samsung has now quietly dropped all 10 claims under the radar. Samsung claims they chose this path to streamline the ongoing lawsuit and have actually decided to consolidate the counter claims into their original suit. Verizon Tiered Data Plans Leaked Brochure

The Verizon brochure pictured to the right illustrates what customers will likely see released next Thursday. As we reported earlier, Verizon will move forward with tiered data plans for new customers. While unlimited data will no longer be available for new customers, tiered monthly plans will run from $10 a month for 75MB  to $80 for 10GB, and an additional $20 for tethering. Blackberry PlayBook Gets AT&T Bridging, Limited Web

Starting today at 12PM Eastern time, AT&T will enable the necessary Bridge app for the BlackBerry PlayBook. Users will be able to access the Bridge app on a BlackBerry smartphone and tether to the PlayBook to supply the tablet with e-mail, contacts, and calendars. For those interested in web access, the $45 4GB data plan is necessary as it is considered tethering by AT&T.
