Toshiba Promises Solution For Thrive Tablet Sleep Problems, Update Coming Soon

Just days after the Toshiba Thrive tablet shipped into the awaiting arms of many enthusiastic new owners, the forums were buzzing with a variety of issues. Users would experience extreme difficulty reviving the tab out of sleep mode without resorting to a full solid re-boot. Additional issues included sporadic system freezes and the device powering on by itself. Good news though as Toshiba has seemingly made good on their promise to provide a solution. The company has developed a fix for the tablet’s sleep issues and will release it “early next week” via the Service Station app. Additionally, the update will improve the device’s “multimedia playback capabilities.” […]

Alibaba Launches First Aliyun OS In China, Hopes To Rival Android And iOS

Move over Android and iOS there’s a new player in town. Well, not yet exactly as a new operating system was launched today with high hopes. Creator Alibaba introduced its first device running on their own unique platform,the Tianyu K-Touch Cloud W700. What’s unique about this device is that it will be enabled by Aliyun, Alibaba’s cloud based platform. The device is said to have a combo cloud and web based focus that will feature elements like e-mail and search but will also support web-based apps. Unknown Motorola Device, Possible Atrix 4G Successor?

Well, what do we have here? Gingerbread Update Coming August 1st For Kyocera Echo Users

August 1st may just mean the rent is due for the rest of us, but Kyocera Echo users can look forward to finally receiving the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update they’ve been waiting for. Update 2.002SP is slated to roll out next Monday and finally move the device from Android 2.2 (Froyo) to the latest build. The update will bring with it some Gingerbread goodies including SWYPE, security patches, improved hardware performance, and a more responsive user interface. Japan Set To Receive World’s First ‘Mango’ Phone: Toshiba-Fujitsu Make It Official

Toshiba-Fujitsu announced that they will be the first official vendor to launch the world’s premier ‘Mango’ device. The announcement followed right behind news that the Windows Phone 7.5 was finally released to manufacturers. Motorola XOOM Will Receive 4G LTE Upgrade In September

Motorola XOOM tablet owners will finally receive the 4G LTE upgrade beginning in September. Motorola had promised the 4G LTE upgrade would become available this past May while users had to make do with the out of the box embedded EV-DO modem for 3G connectivity on Verizon Wireless’ network. Well, May has come and gone and Motorola has yet to elaborate on why the upgrade has been delayed. Motorola began sending emails to XOOM owners telling them to expect the update in September. T-Mobile Rolls Out Much Needed Android 2.3 Update For G2X Owners

In line with T-Mobile’s original July timeline, the company began rolling out the much needed Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) update to happy G2X owners everywhere. The update is expected to improve battery life, decrease the instances of rebooting, and enhance the front facing camera while using QiK. The HTC Puccini 10′ Tablet Uncovered, Stylus Input Like HTC Flyer

Images of HTC’s first 10-inch tablet surfaced today thanks to BGR. The device dubbed the Puccini will rock a similar stylus input like the HTC Flyer device. The device also houses a 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, stereo speakers, and a microphone. While additional device specs remain unconfirmed the tablet is speculated to be Android Honeycomb enabled with a 1.5Ghz processor. An official launch date and pricing have yet to be announced. Verizon Leaks Blackberry Bold 9930 Promo Video Ahead Of Launch

Verizon seemed to be too excited to wait, as it leaked out a promotional video for its flagship Blackberry Bold 9930 ahead of making an official announcement. Verizon Wireless announced today that it will now offer Samsung’s 4G LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1 starting Thursday, July 28th. The 16GB model will be priced at $529 and the 32GB model will be priced at $629. Apple Releases iOS 4.3.5 For Security Issue

In order to address a security vunerability related to PDF support, Apple released iOS 4.3.5 for iOS devices today. The update follows just a mere ten days after iOS 4.3.4 was released. iOS 4.3.5 is available now via iTunes. RIM Will Streamline Operations With 2,000 Employee Layoffs

Research In Motion (Blackberry) plans to implement a “cost optimization program” at the expense of approximately 2,000 employee layoffs, which is roughly 10% of its current workforce. RIM also announced they will be shifting former COO of Product Engineering, Thorsten Heins, into a position that makes him also COO of Product and Sales. Current COO, Dan Morrison, is retiring in the midst of a current medical leave. Additionally, Patrick Spence will take the role of Managing Director, Global Sales and Regional Marketing. Facebook Quietly Releases Dedicated iPad App

Not only has Facebook finished their completed dedicated iPad app, but they’ve managed to release it in secret. The app code was hidden in yesterday’s update (version 3.4.4) to the iPhone app and it’s completely viable on jailbroken iPads. Wondering how the dedicated app fares? According to TechCrunch the left-sided navigation system and use of overlay menus is “great,” as is the ability to chat with buddies while also having the ability to do other Facebook tasks in landscape mode.
