August Android Distribution Numbers Updated: Jelly Bean Up at 40% And Gingerbread Holding On At 33%

The Android Developer team updated the distribution numbers for the Android OS which showed how August played out. No surprise that the Jelly Bean iteration is continuing to increase gradually with numbers at 40% from last month’s 38%. Gingerbread is still holding tight to it’s 33% share of the pie. In case you were curious as to how those older versions were holding up, we’ve got the breakdown here: Ice Cream Sandwich 22.5% (was 23.3%), Honeycomb and Donut remain at 0.1% (was 0.1%), Gingerbread 33% (was 34.1%), Eclair 1.2% (was 1.4%), and Froyo 2.5% (was 3.1%). Punit Soni Takes To Google+ To Clear Up Moto X Bootloader Confusion: Unlocked Bootloader Coming to Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular

There seems to be  massive confusion surrounding the Moto X and bootloaders, so thankfully Motorola’s very own Punit Soni took to his Google+ page to clear the air. Here’s what we know now: the Moto X variants for Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular will all have unlockable bootloaders. The AT&T and Verizon version will not, on the other hand, be unlockable. T-Mobile Users Will Have to Buy Moto X Directly Through Motorola For Now

Even though the recently unveiled Moto X is launching on various US carriers, it appears as though T-Mobile customers will have to jump through a few hoops to buy one. T-Mobile’s very own Mike Sievert confirmed in a conversation with AllThingsD that the T-Mobile Moto X variant will only be available through Motorola directly for the time being. Apple: Will Fix iOS Exploit That Allows 3rd Party Charger Installed Malware

Thanks to a group of sleuthing Georgia Tech researchers, it was uncovered that iOS had an unusual security exploit. Apparently a person could use a third-party charger with a hidden computer to install malware to a plugged in iOS device that is unlocked. During a recent hacking conference, the researches demonstrated their findings when they simply plugged an iPhone into a custom-built charger they equipped with a tiny Linux computer that was programmed to attack iOS devices. Two New Moto X Related Apps Hit Chrome And Google Play Ahead of Today’s Launch

Just mere hours before Motorola and Google take the wraps off of the Moto X, two brand new Motorola made apps have appeared in the Google Play store and in Chrome. Nokia Working On “Treasure Tag” Key Finder As Lumia Line Accessory

According to The Verge, Nokia has been hard at work developing an accessory for its Lumia devices that will act as a key finder or other attached objects. The device is coined the “Treasure Tag” and is reportedly ready for a launch within the next couple of weeks. ASUS Looking to Break Into US Smartphone Market In 2014

In a recent interview to All Things D, ASUS chairman Jonney Shih stated that his company has been working diligently on creating relationships with wireless retailers and carriers with the hope of seeing success in the crowded US smartphone market.
