Maybe you’ve had enough playing with your rooted LG G2 smartphone? Maybe you want to go back to the stock firmware so you can have your warranty reinstated? Either way, this should help you. Getting the LG G2 (Verizon) back to stock is as easy as clicking a few buttons, here’s how:
I. Before You Begin:
1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.
2. Make sure your device has at least 70% of battery life left.
3. You should have appropriate drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, get the drivers from here.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Stock ROM (Download link’s given in the first post)
2. Flash Tool (Download link’s given in the first post, in step-3)
III. Unrooting the LG G2 (Verizon):
1. Download and place both the files onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the Flash Tool archive over to your Desktop.
3. Turn OFF your device.
4. Press and hold the Volume UP+Volume DOWN buttons together and plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
5. Your device should now be in Download mode.
6. Double-click on UpTestEX.exe file available on your Desktop.
7. In the window that opens, select 3GQCT from Select Type and DIAG from PhoneMode menu.
8. Select your Stock ROM file using Select kdz file option available in the tool.
9. Click on Normal web upgrade test button in the tool.
10. A new window will pop-up, just hit the Upgrade Start button.
11. After a couple of minutes, it should ask you your country and language, select following:
Country – Republic of Korea
Language – English
12. You should see the stock firmware being flashed on your device.
13. Once the firmware’s been flashed, reboot your device.
14. You’re all done!
Great! You’ve successfully unrooted your LG G2 (Verizon) smartphone. After unrooting your device, make sure to reset it as well to avoid any issues!
If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.
Will this reset the rootchecker as well?
Yes! Thank god.
Thanks for verification. I have yet to find a unrooting tutorial that mentions if it does or doesn’t. Annoying when the guide are specific to VZW version and dont even mention it at all!
my software version is vs98011a the one in the link is vs98010b does this matter?
Worked perfect! Shows UNROOTED. The vs98010b is just an old version. Once you install it you can upgrade through verizon to vs98010a. I cannot thank the people that came up with this enough!
I tried this method and it worked perfectly fine the first time. However,
the second time I attempted to go back to stock, it failed. I tried several
times to no avail. Curiously, I noticed that the “B2CAppSetup.exe”
program identified my LG G2 as the “VS980” model and decided to click
on options and then “recovery upgrade.” To my surprise, the program
found the compatible software and proceeded to download it. It took more than
an hour to download the file but once it finished, it installed the latest software
version on my LG; that being VS98011A.
I hope this helps those who encounter problems with the original method.
:-O Holy crap. I tried several methods out there and they were all so complicated and didn’t work. This was quick, simple, and most of all it worked. Why is this not out there as the standard way to wipe your phone? Thank you so much!!
So if I root my phone, and remove all the bloatware, then unroot it will all the bloatware be reloaded on to the phone?
Yes, flashing the stock ROM will most likely install all that crapware again.
Republic of Korea? Ummmm, WHY?
Republic of Korea is South Korea. Im assuming you thought North?
Why repiblic of korea? I’d really like to know before I do this.

Does this work on American phones? Cause it says Korean for country. I’m scared to even try until i know. Could someone maybe shine a light on this?
download mode is stuck at 0% on firmware update……
Hello,
Does your PC recognize your device? If it doesn’t, get the LG drivers installed first and then re-do the procedure.
Let us know if it still doesn’t work for you.
Thanks!
i think that was one of the problems. i actually paid someone to do this. definitely worth it for $20.
BTW, thank you for the reply, i really appreciate that
Great!
You’re welcome!
A lot of commenters are wondering the same thing because of the “country: Republic of Korea” part. Is this guide for the U.S. VZW model? Or a Korean model?
Hello Devon,
The download link has firmwares for all the variants of the device. If you’re on Verizon, download the firmware that is for Verizon, okay?
Thanks!
Ok, thanks for the quick response. I’m just confused when it comes to step 11. Say that I am using the U.S. Verizon model, would I still select “Republic of Korea” as the country?

Hello Devon,
Yes, exactly. No matter what country you are in, you must select the country mentioned in the procedure.
Thanks!
this didnt work for me! windows 8 drivers installed, gets to s/w upgrade and stops at 2% due to a error
Can you please let us know what error it generates at 2% ?
I know this is a bit old, but I was curious if you ever figured out the cause. I’m stuck in the same spot.
After I follow all the steps up to picking the country and language, it says my phone is disconnected from the pc, which it is not. I have double and triple checked my drivers and nothing appears to be wrong. Any help?
It might be the issue of your cable, as the tool usually doesn’t generate this kind of errors. Please check your cable.
If I don’t root using the method above, does this still work?
Yes, it should. Thanks!
Also, will I need any programs aside from the ones above? I have a windows PC with nothing installed except 7-zip, adobe flash player, and a few other programs that comes standard on a new PC. Also, is this tutorial and the linked files up to date (does the tutorial match the program’s capabilities)? Thanks for the help!
I need an answer on these things before I can continue… I don’t want to end up ruining my phone on accident.
Hi,
Yes, the procedure works just fine. Don’t worry, it only flashes the stock firmware on your device. You won’t need any special tools, only the ones mentioned in the procedure are good enough.
How do I put my files back on?
Or should I use some program to back it up?
back it up first it’ll wipe everything
Hi mahesh
Hi mahesh , i m sachin from mumbai. I recently got lg g2 vs 980 model from seller on ebay who imported it and flashed with lg kitkat 24a firmware…But i want it unrooted and install stock firmware ..will ur method mentioned work for me….pls reply as ealry as poss. Thanx.
The country “korea” doesn’t matter. you don’t really have a choice anyway as it’ll be the only option. in either case country and language will reset to english as it’s based on your kdz file. With that said the KDZ method here didn’t work for me. The author links to the forum page to download the files in the first few directions. Scroll down on that page to the “2015 (updated with pictures) TOT Method!” section and follow that guide on that website. That worked for me like a champ!
