How to Root the HTC Rezound
Maybe you’re sick and tired of sluggish performance of your HTC Rezound? Maybe you want to move onto a custom ROM to experience ultra-smooth performance on your device? Rooting your device will solve all this. Once you’re rooted, you’ll be able to flash custom recoveries, custom ROMs and do a lot of things you can’t do on an unrooted device. So, here’s how you can go about rooting your HTC Rezound smartphone:
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. Download and install the Moborobo app to your computer as this will install the ADB drivers for your device.
2a. You can also use the Moborobo app to backup your device before proceeding and then use it to restore the device if something goes wrong (not a bad idea when dealing with root access). See below for all it can backup and restore.
3. You must have unlocked bootloader of your device. You can visit the official HTC website to unlock your bootloader.
4. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. WinDroid Toolkit (Download link’s given in the first post)
III. Rooting the HTC Rezound:
1. Download and place the Toolkit archive onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the archive over to your Desktop.
3. Double-click on the Toolkit executable file and it’ll open.
4. Turn ON the USB debugging option on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.
5. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.
6. In the toolkit, click on CWM as shown below:
7. It should flash the CWM Recovery on your device, shouldn’t take too long to finish.
8. Once the recovery’s been flashed, click on SuperSU button in the toolkit.
9. You’ll be taken to the CWM Recovery mode.
10. Once there, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.
11. Choose the SuperSU ZIP file to be flashed on your device.
12. It should begin flashing the file on your device and will be done within a minute or two.
13. You’re now rooted!
Congratulations! Your HTC Rezound smartphone has been successfully rooted and is equipped with a custom recovery to help you install custom ROMs and Mods! Enjoy!
IV. Flash a Custom ROM (Optional):
1. If you are ready to flash custom ROMs on your device, head to the How To Flash a Custom ROM on the HTC Rezound to learn how to do that.
If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.
Does this apply for all carriers?

Really easy to follow. One thing though, when I tried to flash superuser, it started off okay then the icon changed to the phone with a red triangle and exclamation point.
does this permanent root?
I have gotten through steps 1 and 2 without a problem including unlocking the bootloader. When I open WinDroid Toolkit and select HTC Rezound it downloads drivers. When it opens only about 1/2 of the choices shown in the images in your post show up. Basically Get Token ID, Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP and Flash SuperSU show up. When I try to Flash TWRP (I read where CWM had some issues that may may have caused it to be removed) it doesn’t recognize the phone and suggests I make sure it is plugged in and the ABD Drivers are installed, which I have done repeatedly. But HTC Sync, MoboRobo, etc. have seen, read, backed up, etc. the phone without problem. I am trying this with the phone in normal user mode and fastboot mode. Still doesn’t work? Suggestions? My main objective is to debloat the phone and install Cerberus in a rooted mode. And suggestions? Thanks in advance.
I’m stuck at the same step as you. Hopefully will figure out what to do shortly. If you see this in the mean time, feel free to give a shout.
I had to uninstall MoBoRoBo before I could go forward.. Apparently it grabs the port and won’t share it with any other program.
After you gain root make a complete backup of the factory ROM with TWRP and save it to your phone and to your desktop computer just in case.
The next thing the article didn’t tell you is that Unless you are S-OFF once you Flash the LS ROM, you must flash the image to phone also. It must be manually extracted from the LS ROM on your desktop and then copied to you phone for the last part of the flash of the image. Not required if S-ON.
